Quite frankly I feel that elusive grand slam is out of her reach now, this recent injury which happened at Wimbledon last year, has not healed 100%,I saw her on Jimmy Kimmels late night recently and she said it has taken a long time to heal, though she was looking forward playing at the AO..I was not surprised at all she is not playing at the AO in 2022.Another factor she would have had to ask for a wild card as her ranking has dropped to No 41, as she would not be seeded, being a former champion she would have received a wild card.
Agree. Not a surprise she's not playing down under. Older bodies take longer to heal from injuries. However, I would be very surprised if she plays down there again. And her ranking will tumble even further as she has SF points to defend. Auz will be wide open again in 22. Maybe Ash will get over the hump on HC and pull a win.

Another withdrawal for the up coming Australian Open 2022,

Karolina Pliskova injured her right hand in practice yesterday and won't be able to play in Adelaide,Sydney and the AO in 2022.

( also I noticed on the entry list....Svetlana Kuznetsova wasn't on the list)

Prominent WTA Retirements in 2021,
Timea Bacsinszky
Vania King
Barbira Strycova
Carla Suarez Navarro
Yaroslava Shedova
Johanna Konta
Kiki Bertens.
I heard the American CiCi Bellis has retired as well, due to chronic injuries. I know she was never a fixture on the WTA tour, but a few years back she was highly touted. I was wondering if other posters have heard she retired?

AO 2021 finalist Jennifer Brady has withdrawn from the AO 2022 due to a left foot injury ( I did see a picture of Jen on twitter in a boot on her left foot the other day).

With the withdrawal of Karolina Muchova, that means three of the four 2021 AO semi finalists ( Brady,Serena,Muchova) will miss next year's AO 2022.

Clara Tauson will play doubles at the Australian Open with Alison Van Uytvanck, whom she knows from the Henin Academy. Plays single Melbourne - Adelaide 2 - and single and double Australian Open - well as far as I know for now
