Wow all these withdrawals, I don't know if the 2022 season is doomed or not. I wonder if the AO will take place without a hitch. Hopefully, players can recover and fans can enjoy the event.

Note that the above is about withdrawals from the tune-up prior, in Adelaide.

Happy New Year, Margaret. The Peng Shuai news continues to be confusing.
Thanks same to you when you catch up lol! I feel she is under house arrest.....thank goodness we live in countries that allow 'free speech' that is all I can say.

Indeed, but I find it ironic that we get so cavalier about our rights that we forget they come with obligations, too. At least here in the US.

Venus Williams will not play at the AO 2022,for the first time in a decade.Venus sustained a leg injury in August 2021 and has not played since, with her ranking dropped,Venus would needed a wild card to play.( which I believe she would have been granted one).
This makes it the first time the Australian Open without both of the William's sisters since 1997.

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Melbourne Summer Set saying,
"The timing to compete in the first Melbourne event this week is too soon for me,just returned from isolation"
"Look forward to seeing you later this month".

Kvitova loses to #263 Australian Priscilla Hon. Kvitova is behind in her preparations but Hon played really well and was in front 5-1 in third set.

The 'stand out match' at the Adelaide International 1 tournament later today is the rematch of the final at IW between Paula Badosa v Victoria Azarenka.,not bad for a round 2 match.
BTW the pair played doubles together yesterday and won their match

Happy New Year, glad tennis is back. Feels like there was barely any offseason, including televised WTA 125ks in December :yahoo:

Watching Osaka vs Cornet in Melbourne
Good to see Osaka hitting fhands again
Osaka 64 1st set
Cornet who can be a tricky customer wins the 2nd set 63,going to a decider.Osaka needs to improve her footwork,at times flat footed.

Cornet plays very well to win the 2nd. Osaka showing some rust, for sure, but I'm hoping she'll shake some off here.

Tight match, and Osaka got tight in the close-out, but good to get a win under her belt.
