I am SO sad I missed the Nishikori/Carreno Busta match live. I did want to get up and watch it. But a man's gotta sleep. Anyways. I've watched the tiebreak. Which was fantastic. A tough call for the umpire. And he probably made the wrong one. But Nishikori hit that ball either right after the out call or as it was called. It was almost simultaneous. And Carreno Busta, as the ump said, was definitely racing the other direction. STILL probably should have played it again.

I'm always glad to see Nishikori come through. Thrilled he fought back from 2 sets to love. Carreno Busta's outburst and meltdown was probably as much about being mad at himself for being in the situation in the first place. Having let Nishikori come back from two sets down. Though, he knows Nishikori is great. So maybe not. He knows he fought in sets 3 and 4 and they were close. So were the first two sets. They mirrored each other exactly. But to play that well. Serve well enough and return well enough to break as many times as you were broken. To force the fifth set tiebreak and be up 8-5. That's just crushing.

There is no way these players K.nishikori, R. Bautista agut, L.pouille, F.tiafoe will win their Qtr final matches with the amount of time they spent on court already these are they times- R.Bautista agut 14:06 F.tiefoe 11:45 L.pouille 12:06 K.nishikori 13:47 as you can see all these players are losing next rd.

If these guys lose, it ain't because of on court time. Bautista Agut probably has the best chance to win. But Pouille does too.

I'm a huge Nishikori fan. But, he has not been able to hang with Novak in quite a while. Hoping he can get a set. But definitely don't see him having much of a chance. He doesn't have the serve to challenge Novak. He can break Novak. But he'll be broken more than he can break. Every time. I hate that. I wish it wasn't the case. But I've basically lost all belief that he can play with Novak. He beat him 2 out of their first 3 matches. But their 2nd match and their 3rd match were 3 years apart. The third match being that 2014 semifinal at the US Open that Nishi won. He's lost 14 times in a row to him since. And they haven't been terribly close for the most part. But, they've been close sometimes. So Nishi has a small chance. And Djokovic hasn't looked great at all times so far. But he's looked mostly great. And Nishikori probably just won't be able to handle him.

Tiafoe technically has the least chance to win. But... he's young. He's quick. Mostly, we just haven't seen him up against Nadal yet. If you're gonna get a win off someone the best way to do it is when they don't know your game. When you can still surprise them. So, no I don't think he has much chance. But I have some hope.

Clearly you dont know that 14 hours can do to your body, none of them are winning next round, even without that amount of time on court they still lose because their opponents are just better. If you think all those hard matches won't matter then you are mad they always matter.

Bautista Agut will NOT be one bit tired and will be fresh as a daisy, mark my words. I expect him to beat Tsitsipas sadly.

Pouille has game, but he’s French.

Yeah. Honestly I think I was hoping his Frenchness would be the reason Coric beat him. It did not pan out that way. Super annoyed with Coric for it too. Just another disappointment from him. Even more than Zverev I feel like he's just too good for this crap. But, he doesn't have the weapons some guys (like Zverev) have. So if I were unbiased I could probably see that he's destined to struggle his entire career. Even if I do think he'll win a couple slams at least. But just incredibly frustrating to watch his career.

But good for Pouille. He put in the work. Played the better match. And good for him for not disappearing after falling out of the top 20 last year. Has stuck with it and will probably be rewarded with a return to the top 25 after the AO and maybe a return to the top 20 soon after that.

Fed lucky that DelPo didn't play, Cilic lost in the 2nd or 3rd and had the final points from last year to defend and Thiem was sick or injured or whatever. So he'll only lose the two spots to Zverev and Anderson. Which. Good for Anderson. Played better over the last 12 months than Fed has to the point that once this comes off, even though he lost in the first round here, Fed's 4th round here isn't enough for Fed to be ranked higher than him. Though. That's with not playing the clay season at all. So... only kinda.

Yeah I expect Bautista Agut to win as well. They've never played. So while they'll both do research, they'll both have to adjust. I think they'll both win at least one set. I don't expect five sets either way. But I don't put it out of the question. Tsitsipas can win it. But I think Bautista Agut is more likely. Tsitsipas has the higher ceiling for his career. But he may not be there yet. But I can also imagine a world where he comes out and blows Agut off the court. Just no telling. And the mystery, rare these days at this level, is exciting. It's why we love the young players.

Agreed. The amount of hours spent on court is of minor importance and generally depends on how the player copes with it. We all know the talk leading up to the 2009 AO final, something the Nadal trolls here seem to forget. Players like Kei, Nadal, Novak have less issues with it than Fed or F3.

My point is what you said in the second half of your first sentence. The hours on court don't matter because their opponents are just better. They were going to win anyways. If Nishikori had come through his first four matches in 4 straight setters and only spent 8 hours on court and Djokovic had spent 14 hours on court, Djokovic is still most likely gonna win. Same with Nadal. Mostly same with Raonic vs Pouille.

But the Bautista Agut v Tsitsipas match is a question mark. I don't think RBA's time on court will matter as much as you think it will. Dude is a tank. Super fit. Trains hard all year long period. Tsitsipas is young, inexperienced and will almost certainly give RBA freebies because of it. But he's got more weapons than RBA. So he'll challenge him.

I’m surprised you think PCB should have been entitled to a replay. It’s rather formalistic no? He clearly lost the point.

R. Bautista agut already tired why do you think he's going pushed to 5 sets all the time even he's the better, player because he's a bit out of gas, also lets not act like he's some super human that never runs out of gas. Ps I think he will lose but if he wins it won't be in straights sets thats for sure

Well PCB was certain that the line judge called out before Nishikori hit the ball. If that's correct, as the commentators said, the rule/law is that you replay the point. And the commentators agreed that the call came before Nishikori hit the ball. I felt like Nishikori was like an inch away from connecting if the call came before. But he'd already swung. The call didn't effect Nishikori. Which means PCB didn't have time to react to go behind himself in the time it took for him to stop from the out call. So I think PCB was out of the point. So, I'm mostly fine with the umpire's call. But... it's iffy. And on court, in that situation, he saw it how he saw it. But, he probably should have done a replay. It was too close. BUT. If he does do a replay. Then you probably have Nishikori just as apoplectic. Though, Nishikori would never have gotten as riled up as PCB. He certainly wouldn't have thrown anything.

Of course. All of this could have been avoided if the line judge had just kept his mouth shut.

Funny , I find Roger does “corporate speak” as well as anyone. They’re all prickly and ego driven, that’s why they’re champs mind you.

I just don’t think any tennis champs are Mother Teresa.

That's about it! No one #1 in the world doing anything is really that humble and self-effacing! It's a crock and they're probably as fake as anyone in entertainment! The stories I could tell you about Michael Jordan are horrifying, but most people just love the guy! They wouldn't if they heard half his antics IRL outside of basketball and within! :nono:  :cuckoo:

I wouldn't be surprised if Tsitsipas's game comes down a bit after defeating Fed..BA is areal backboard of a pusher who can be crafty like Simon.. dangerous if Stefanos is off game

RBA is already little out of gas not saying he wont win the match because of it but it will cost him makeing the final definitely., also You say djokovic that makes you think that the other players are as fit as him not a good point at all and these young players being gas out at the end of events happens every slam so dont act like its something Im makeing up its just a fact.

By more honest, I didn't mean he that doesn't have an ego. Nadal Goat 2 had said that Nadal would have said nice things about MecEnroe, after the American talked about the change of guard.
Without an ego, Federer wouldn't be where he is, but I think he is more genuine. These guys show their egos differently.

Its clear that federer fans want S.tipsatipis to lose for makeing federer look like a challenger player, thats why they are saying that RBA, is this super human that never does down, even if it is as dumb hell he's been in three 5 set matches and already look like wobbling on empty legs. Dont care that you say three 5 set matches in one event is going to gas anyone out.:yesyes::cuckoo::facepalm:

Fair enough. I think Nadal is just As genuine, if not more. I guess that’s why we’re fans. Though I do think Novak who wears his heart and emotions on his sleeve gets slammed for being genuinely honest how he feels about things.
However, sports champhions have a lot of agendas, not the least being their PR image and their sponsors.

I do think that a player can get exhausted physically and mentally from a particular match and yet recover better from what seems an equally grueling match on another occasion.

It’s connected somewhat to how players wake up certain days and inexplicably just “know “ they’re feeling crappy and unmotivated and will struggle on the court that day.
