Gruelling rallies in the Djokovic match.

I woke up just in time to see the TB! Nole almost came all the way back from 3-6 before surrendering it to Medvedev! He's scary good and Nole's lucky he was playing well! Those rallies truly were some of the most grueling I've seen in a while! This happens to Djokovic; long rallies where his opponent refuses to miss! IDK what he's doing; more lockdown tennis keeping it in play? Invariably he lets some of those long points go inexplicably! So bizarre! :nono:

Nole or Nadal, unlikely anyone else.

Most of the other competitive seeds are gone outside of Kei! Some of the so called experts seem to feel RBA will eliminate Tsitsipas allowing Rafa to get thru since the Spanish contingent are required to do so! This has been some tourney with many great matches! I'm the most impressed by Milos and his effort since the 1st round! :yesyes: :p   :ptennis:

Djokovic playing his next two matches against his career pigeons should warm him up nicely for the final

Zverev is a clown. I watched the first two sets and felt like puking. He started the match by breaking Milos followed by a loud "come on" then proceeded to implode.

He's still young. We don't want to be too harsh on these players because he'll have at least 8 more seasons of potential high level play before he declines (and he could have more the way things are going now for athletes in their 30's) so I'm not writing his obituary or anything. He has plenty of time to turn things around but he's been stagnant for a while, and his mental toughness is just all over the place.

Most worryingly, I don't think you can do it at the highest level with a mediocre forehand. If the backhand is your weaker shot, you can shield it in many ways, hit it with spin and loopy to get maybe some depth, use the slice a lot, construct points in a way to run around it (sort of like the early Nadal), etc... you just can't protect a bad forehand.

K Nishikori has given him problems before. How many 5 setters has the Japanese played this tournament?

After starting 2-1 against Djokovic, Nishikori has lost 14 matches in a row winning only 5 sets in them(only the Rome 2016 SF was close).

Raonics record is even worse.
Had won only 2 sets in 9 matches.
Also,Service games won(Raonics weapon) against each other-
Raonic-75/100
Djokovic-95/102

Nishikori in this tournament against,
Majchrzak 3-6 6-7(6) 6-0 6-2 3-0
Karlovic 6-3 7-6(6) 5-7 5-7 7-6(7)
Sousa 7-6(6) 6-1 6-2
Carreno Busta 6-7(8) 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4 7-6(8)

Total time on court 13 hours 1 minute

I think uncle Ivan will give him a good spanking for today's performance. Fed also needed some time to mature, but in tennis at the very top you need to mature early.

Largely agree with this, I would just refine regarding your comment about forehands at the highest level.... very important to state that this is in reference to this era. After all, Edberg got on perfectly fine with virtually no forehand to speak of :)

My goodness, the Zverev performance was awful, he couldn't play worse, besides Raonic is playing well it was very easy match for him
On the other hand I can't believe that Nishi is advancing, his game is very unsatisfactory and this last match will affect him the next one a lot and also will be the end of his running in the AO.

It was a real chicken wing, but his game was to attack the net and it held up enough to get 6 majors, the Jr. Grand Slam, and the Inaugural Olympic gold medal in '84 (Exhibition officially)! :yesyes: :p  :ptennis:

Hey @the AntiPusher , good to see you back. I think if we see Roger playing a clay swing then we're probably seeing his last year on the tour. I don't really see him doing it other than for one last time.
Hey BB..Good to come back and have an opportunity to engage in some competitive banter..Roger is truly the tennis verison of Beethoven combined with DeVinci 's artistic genius..That being said..he is nobody's fool , playing in clay events at this stage is not in his best interests.

He acts like he believes that he's tennis's next big thing, but when rubber meets the road, he falls apart. Taking nothing away from Milos, who was very good today, but Zverev is falling way short of expectations.
Agreed. it does look like all the hype about him being the next great champion has gotten to his head.

There is no way these players K.nishikori, R. Bautista agut, L.pouille, F.tiafoe will win their Qtr final matches with the amount of time they spent on court already these are they times- R.Bautista agut 14:06 F.tiefoe 11:45 L.pouille 12:06 K.nishikori 13:47 as you can see all these players are losing next rd.
