We need a player that can be consistent, so far Swiatek especially in 2022 was that player, there are players on the tour with games to upset Iga, lets wait and see the draw, also some of the warm up tournaments may also give us some indication
BTW Jess Pegula in the United Cup is leading Iga 5-1
I am a little tired of her winning everything with little to no resistance.I like that Chinese girl that practices in Spain. The weather may also affect some players negativitely. I want to be surprised this season ...

I prefer to have a 'even playing field' in both the WTA and ATP, though there will also be some 'stand out players' as we have seen over the years. I feel the ladies in the WTA have to have more 'belief' in their games, be prepared to train hard, and compete all the time, on each point, to win the silver ware in the WTA competition

In Auckland, after rain delays and matches went indoors,
D.Kovinic (7) d L.Davis 46 63 62

Venus Williams was serving for the match 5-4 broken, 5 all, broken again and L. Zhu won the match in 3 sets 36 62 75
C. Gauff (1) d S. Kenin 64 64
L. Fernandez d J. Grabher 60 61
Emma Raducanu was forced to retire in her match against Kuzmova, due to an ankle injury, her fifth retirement in the last 52 weeks, Emma won the 1st set 60 and lost the 2nd set 75, when she had to retire
Unfortunately, this is how Vee's matches will play out. She's gassed in the deciding set and cannot hold off these younger players. It's time to call it when you can't win back-to-back matches for 3+ years. :-(

Is Vee still wearing Eleven outfits?

Vika had her hands full dealing w/ this teen sensation. She is sent packing in the deciding TB by Noskova. :bye:
Vika is no longer that player that used to win a lot.Its sad that her prime was during the Serena era,and now she is playing catch-up to the younger players. She doesn't seem to have the stamina,or patience during tight matches.

I watched the match when it was a set all, agree Vika seems to have lost a step or 2, though Linda who played qualies, in Adelaide made the semis...she is one to watch this year.

The Fake COVID-19 vaccination, regarding Camila Giorgi and her family continues, ( btw Camila Giorgi has arrived in Australia)
" According to Corriere del Veneto, doctor accused of faking COVID-19 vaccination she said she threw vaccine in the toilete and that Camila Giorgi asked her if it was possible to get the fake certification ' for all the mandatory vaccines, COVID-19 included".
Diego Barbiani said,
"I can confirm with absolutely certainty that none of the vaccines to Camila Giorgi and her family were effectively injected" she said.

I don't think so. The kit she was wearing yesterday didn't have the Eleven symbol on it. Her cap looked like it might be from the Eleven line. Weird, I thought she signed a contract to be a brand ambassador for Lacoste. What happened to those clothes?

This is ridiculous just looking at Adelaide 2 WTA 500 draw ( while watching Coco's SF in Auckland)
Swiatek (1), Jabeur (2),and Garcia (4) are the top seeds,

Note: Jessica Pegula (3) withdrew due to change of schedule ( USA have made the final of the United Cup, Sydney)

Notable 1st rd matches,
Bencic - Muguruza
Keys - Badosa
Kvitova - Samsonova
Kontaveit - Pegula
Rybakina - Kasatkina

Swiatek has withdrawn late ( after the draw) due to a right shoulder injury.Caroline Garcia takes Swiatek's top line in the draw, next player to be seeded, Danielle Collins moves into Garcia's vacated spot

ASB Classic Auckland
1st semi final result
Coco Gauff (1) d D.Kovinic (7) 60 62....a comprehensive win for Coco, she has not dropped a set en-route to the final, it is also her first final since RG 2022.

R. Masarova d (Q) Y. Bonaventure 63 63 and will face Coco Gauff in the final of the ASB Classic in Auckland

Adelaide International 1 results of SFs,

A. Sabalenka (2) d I. Begu 63 62, Saba too strong for the baseline, too much power overall for Begu. I must say watching Saba the last couple of matches her serve has improved out of sight, for consistency, remembering how 'horrific' it was during the AO last year.Saba has advanced to the final without dropping a set

Linda Noskova the 18 year old Czech, who played qualifers to get into the main draw of Adelaide, has defeated the No 1 seed Ons Jabeur in 3 sets 63 16 63 to reach her first WTA final, what impresses me the most, Linda is soo technically sound at 18 years young, which bodes well for her future. The Minister of Happiness, Jabeur did have some lower back issues, in this match, though that does not take away how Linda competed in this match...well done Linda!

Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend are the doubles champions in Adelaide defeating top seeds Siniakova/Hinter 62 76(2), to win their first title together in 3 yrs. It's Taylor's 1st doubles title since returning to the tour in 2022.

Sad News,
Venus Williams has withdrawn from the AO due to an injury she sustained in the ASB Classic, Auckland, I thought she may have sustained a ham string injury...I will try to get more confirmation
Australia's Kim Birrell will be awarded her wild card place

That's what she should do,play more doubles..like a doubles specialist.Townsend is maddening, and yet she is so talented.Time is running out and she better commit to tennis or retire.
