The Tournament:

The tournament was first held in August 1881 on grass courts at the Newport Casino in Newport, Rhode Island. That year, only clubs that were members of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association (USNLTA) were permitted to enter.[3] Richard Sears won the men's singles at this tournament, which was the first of his seven consecutive singles titles. From 1884 through 1911, the tournament used a challenge system whereby the defending champion automatically qualified for the next year's final, where he would play the winner of the all-comers tournament.

In the first years of the U.S. National Championship, only men competed and the tournament was known as the U.S. National Singles Championships for Men. In September 1887, six years after the men's nationals were first held, the first U.S. Women's National Singles Championship was held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

The US Open employed standard tiebreakers (first to 7, win by 2) in every set of a singles match.[2] Now in all four Grand Slam events, when a match that reaches 6–6 in the last possible set (the third for women and the fifth for men) an extended tiebreaker to 10 points is played.

About New York City:

New York City is back! Restaurants, concerts, Shakespeare in the Park. Ferry to the Rockaways. Lobster rolls on the beach, live music in Central Park, and the roof garden on the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And so much of it is free, or incredibly cheap. You'd be surprised. (OK, lobster rolls are expensive. And so are Broadway tickets, but there is TKTS.)

We've been in a drought here. Long-term forecast is still for hot and dry.

I think it has been talked before but if Djokovic withdraws from the tournament before the US Open release its OOP for Monday or Tuesday (depending on which side of the draw Djokovic lands on), then RBA will be in Djokovic's slot.

If Djokovic withdraws after the OOP is released, then a Lucky Loser will be in Djokovic's spot (like Australian Open this year).

Basically, if either one the Top 4 seeds have Djokovic on their part of the draw tomorrow, it will be more than likely that RBA or a Lucky loser will on the spot instead of Djokovic.

Here's an interesting tidbit: Djokovic is not in the players list at the US Open website at all.

Shelton is the recent revelation in US tennis. I think he just turned pro. JJ Wolf has also had some good results of late. I have no idea who Tien is.

I believe that @tented has a good bead on what happens if Novak doesn't withdraw before the draw is made....#17 goes into his slot and LL takes the open slot? So I think that would be RBA, the #17? But what if Djokovic withdraws after the OOP is made you're asking? Then I would blame the tournament for making a mess of it. At some point this has to stop.

Learner Tien, 16 years of age, from California USA, won the National USTA National 18 year old Boys Championship, in Kalmazoo, Michigan, in 2022, to earn a automatic wild card entry in the USO event.

The one player that also got screwed is PCB. If Djokovic withdrew before the draw ceremony, he would have been seeded 12th, thus avoiding the Top 4 seeds before the quarterfinals. But because Djokovic has not withdrawn yet, he will be seeded 13th thus he will face one of the Top 4 seeds at R16.

The draw hasn't been made, so hold your outrage for now.

Any vacancy created by the withdrawal of a seed prior to the release of the Order of Play for the first day of Main Draw shall be filled as follows:

- If the withdrawal is among seeds 1 to 4, the 5th seed is moved into the open position, the 5th position shall be filled by the 17th seed, and the 17th position shall be filled by the next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded.

- If the withdrawal is among seeds 5 to 16, the 17th seed is moved into the open position and the 17th position shall be filled by the next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded.

- If the withdrawal is among seeds 17 to 32 it shall be filled by the next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded.

The position vacated by that next highest ranked player shall then be filled by the next player on the original entry list if prior to the commencement of the Qualifying competition or by the eligible Lucky Loser if after the commencement of the Qualifying competition.

Any vacancy created by the withdrawal of a seed which occurs after the release of the Order of Play for the first day of the Main Draw shall be filled by eligible Lucky Losers.

While Nadal do have Alcaraz on his half, his first 5 round matches are manageable meaning he should able to win those matches without any extreme sweat, hopefully!
