Well done to Luimila Samsonova who rallied for a 16 61 62 win over the No 3 seed Elena Rybakina to reach her first 1000 level final
After suitable rest she will play Jess Pegula in the final!
Today will be her 2nd time this week she will playing 2 matches in 1 day!
Lets hope she has enough left in her tank for the final!

The organizers should be ashamed of themselves with this poor scheduling. It somewhat feels like someone called the organizers from Buffalo... because Jess scheduling at this event was near perfect. If Jess wins there should be a giant asterisk next to her win because this is not a level playing field.

To be fair Tossip it is not Jess fault, it is the Brainless scheduling of the officials, as Keli said they should have played back to back SF yesterday

We know Jess is going to win the first set..that's like the theorms in math Geometry. It's a given..it's the 2nd and 3rd set is usually Jess bugaboo..is that correct @kskate2 Keli ?
yes, that's correct. She usually forgets she's a tennis player in the 2nd set. But I don't think even Jess can stuff this up today. Sam has to be on fumes and not likely to come back and win sets 5 and 6 for the day

Just a Thought,
I suppose the 'powers to be' in Montreal never considered having the final on Monday to be fairer to players? though they would not get the fans in, not being on a week end and the fans would not be happy if that happened, and would probably want a refund on their tickets, then again it could rain again :)
They can't push it to Mon when another M1000 is starting tomorrow. This thing has to end today even if they had to play QF, SF and F all in one day.

I think Samsonova doesn't care, and her team has that pissed off look.I don't blame them and she literally is fiing up on purpose.

Not her fault Tossip. I agree the scheduling has been poor from day 1 when rain was forecasted and instead of starting at 11am on Center Court they said no. It really set the tone for how they were going to manage this event and to call it poor is actually being quite kind. Jess didn't ask for all the early matches, but when you are in the doubs draw too, they have to trot you out there early so you can come back and play doubs later in the day. Just the way it worked out this week. Besides, they're going to save primetime for any Canadians and the #1 or #2 seeds.

Congrats to Jess. She really did deserve this tournament. Especially after having a really tough draw. She had to beat Putintseva, Coco and Iga all while playing doubs. Well deserved. :partying-face:

No no MM there's only one Swiss Miss my Hingis <3..

My girl! Martina H. was one of a kind! She wasn't physically strong like the Amazons of the day, but made up for it in consistency, cerebral play, & amazing defense! It's a wonder she stayed #1 for so long; 209 wks., winning 5 majors! She also was 1 match from a CYGS, but did it in doubles! Hingis didn't have as much trouble w/ Venus Wms., but getting thru both her & Serena was daunting which knocked her down a peg! Later it was a resurgent Capriati & Davenporte thwarting her efforts!:fearful-face: :astonished-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Jess Pegula d Liudmila Samsonova 61 60 to win her 2nd career WTA1000 title in Montreal. Weather messed up the final, but it was a great week for Jess
Jess will move up to No 3 in the rankings
Well done to Liudmila she had a good week reaching the final, having to play 2 matches in 1 day twice, she defeated some good players along the way, took out the No 2 Sabalenka and Bencic
Liudmila will have a new ranking of 12

And all the young gunz who could blow her off the court. They sent that girl into early retirement...
