And all the young gunz who could blow her off the court. They sent that girl into early retirement...
Preach .. That's exactly what happened..it's great that she had a great post singles career with all those double titles ( ladies and mixed)

I hear ya. But knowing that they couldn't push this to Monday, we all agree they should have made better choices.
In the old days, it was no big deal making up a match! Today, they're just too grueling; often going almost 3 hours! Back in the day I recall Manuela Meleeva having to do the impossible! At the 1984 Italian Open, due to rain she had to wrap up the 3rd set of her QF, then went 3 sets more in the SF, laid down for half an hour and finished off a tournament win over Evert Lloyd in straight sets! Chris had to complete her SF and obviously didn't deal w/ the situation as well! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :fearful-face:  :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Capriati is ranked way too low on most people's all time list. There are very few players that reached her talent level. I feel like many people hold her burnout in the mid-90s against her more than they should.

If Jennifer only had a nutritionist/conditioner, she would have been unbeatable for about a decade, starting from 1994.

Getting back to the present in tennis,

Tossip if you are around,

Taylor Townsend lost in qualies today to Trevisan in Cinncy. Maybe she will get a LL slot

Serena won it in 2001, 2011, and 2013. The last US woman until Pegula. Venus lost to Radwanska in the final in 2014. She has not won in Canada.
I don't think she ever won Cinci either.

She should just focus on doubles, and she can make a good living playing doubles. She is failing to launch her singles career and might as well go on to the next best thing.

As well it should be held against her! She was a child; out of control much too early in life! It was inevitable she'd get busted! It may have saved her life! It got her 3 majors late IIRC! It still haunts me that AO final vs Hingis! Such hot conditions w/ gruelingly long points, that shortened Hingis' career as well! :face-with-head-bandage: :astonished-face: :fearful-face:

Dude , Jennifer was a life time drug addict... there's nothing a nutritionist/trainer could have done..she was going to have to still battle with those drug demons

I don't agree with that. It seems like a copout. She is a very talented singles player too. Several things needs to happen for her to be successful, but I'd like to see her get serious and apply herself before pulling the plug on singles:
- desire to play
- right coach
- physical trainer so she can drop those extra pounds and get in fighting shape
- family support system to help her w/ the baby while traveling

Wait just a second, Taylor beat the current world #3 Jess P. a few months ago. Jess is Always a tough out regardless if she isn't at her best. Y'all want her to give up her very unique talented left handed singles game to become a double specialists..I disagree..I would say that she needs to follow the steps that Keli outlined so well especially dropping the pounds because she is still under 26 years old..

I take all your above points,
I think we have discussed before some of the points you posted, which I agree
Tayor is talented, though to me she dosent appear to have 'hunger' to become a successful singles player, some of the time she dosent play enough tournaments to get her ranking up as a singles player, like playing on the challenger circuit as a example? she is also a good tennis commentator? though is she really serious about her tennis full time,? I understand she also needs a good support system while traveling on the tour being a mum.At the end of the day it is up to Taylor, at present it appears to me she is just happy being a player that chooses which tournaments she wants to play, more doubles play than singles

It does appear that she is comfortable making cameo appearances at a few tournaments to play singles

Agree, if she is really serious about her singles, she has to play the tour full time not part time, or go to challenger tournaments and get her ranking up, or make a commitment and play qualies at bigger tournaments, she did play qualies at Cinncy but was defeated.

She should take a page from Eubanks play book and maybe she can make it.She is content with reaching finals of doubles slams. She should copy and paste what Eubanks did.I guess she is happy with mediocrity....
