Looks fairly balanced, with I think maybe Nole having a bit easier path. He has had some killer battles with Stan though. Stan might be due one.

Roger's path looks tough, just because he has not played well, but also Haas is right there, and Delpo right after. He is good enough to go through, his reward is Novak...

Rafa looks solid on that side I think, unless someone catches fire...

Good overview of the draw, Murat. I guess it's a sign of the time of year that it isn't being more hotly debated and analyzed.

Draw is here, for those who haven't seen it:

Novak's draw is pretty nasty. Isner and Delpo. JJ has a chance against Rafa I think. Fed will be hoping he get doc youz. and not Anderson I think for his first match opponent.

I've never had any use for Paris, but now that Nadal requires 666 points to secure the Year-ending #1....Paris looks fascinating :D

So if he wins Paris, he has a lock on the year-end No. 1, regardless of what happens in London?

Figures. I picked Chardy in the draw challenge because he's French. Now I'm waiting to see if Mannarino will beat Giraldo.

Ha! I picked Chardy because he has become my new Olivier Rochus, i.e., if I pick him, he loses; if I pick against him, he wins. Sorry, Jeremy and tented, if I jinxed you both. :snigger

Just watching Gulbis v. Verdasco...Gulbis had 3 set pts on Fernando's serve, but Verdasco held, then Ernie's head came off...he played a terrible TB, smashed his racqet to bits and hasn't recovered his balance. Good job out-headcasing Verdasco.

Another early exit for team Tomic. I am wondering how things are in his camp these days...

He did win a couple of matches in qualifying. And this surface next to grass is probably best for Lopez which is a decent player. Let's see how the transition to a new coach went when he is playing back home.

Of the big names only Djokovic and Tsonga (and Gasquet) are playing tomorrow.

Good win for Rosol beating Chardy at home in straight sets against a French crowd. Hopefully he can keep it going.

I'm pleased to see that Fernando held it together and beat Ernie in straights.

As many as four frenchmen lost today.

Also, it appears as though every other player is a frenchman in this draw.
I have not bothered to count explicitly though.

I think it is right time to move this tournament somewhere else. With the
rising market for Tennis in Asia and South America, the competition for hosting
tennis tournaments has become stiff.

Under these circumstances, it seems unfair that Paris gets a Grand Slam
and an ATP 1000 tournament. I think it is grossly unfair. Yes,
London has Wimbledon and WTF; but WTF is temporary and not permanent
(even though it appears to be permanent). Yes, there is a GS and three
ATP 1000s in USA; but, they are in different cities at least.

However, it is best to keep the indoor ATP 1000 tournament in Europe
itself so that players do not have to criss cross the world and as it fits into
the European Indoor Swing (not to mention that historically Europe has
tennis tradition and currently a powerhouse too) . My suggestion would be
to give this tournament to Germany. After all the whole country of Germany
does not have a grand slam and also does not host an ATP 1000 tournament.
The highest tennis tournament they have is Hamburg, an ATP 500 tournament.
Let us spread the big tournaments around.

So, how many of you agree with me.

Does anyone have any info on PH Herbert? 21 frenchman defeated Paire 6-2 6-2. Good result unless Paire went on his occasional walkabout.

He is 22 and looks like...Marin Cilic's brother

I was wondering about that guy as well. Never heard of him. He does look like Cilic. But every time we see a new comer, they're already 22. *sigh*
