The Tournament:

The Nitto ATP Finals is the year-end climax to the ATP Tour season. The event, which features only the world's best eight qualified singles players and doubles teams, is contested in a round-robin format with the best four players and doubles teams reaching the knockout semi-finals stage. The prestigious tournament has been contested in major cities around the world, with a rich history dating back to the birth of The Masters in Tokyo (1970). In 2009, the tournament moved to its current home in London, where it will be played through 2020.

About London:

London is the capital and largest city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames in the south-east of England, at the head of its 50-mile (80 km) estuary leading to the North Sea, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. Londinium was founded by the Romans. The City of London, London's ancient core − an area of just 1.12 square miles (2.9 km2) and colloquially known as the Square Mile − retains boundaries that follow closely its medieval limits. The City of Westminster is also an Inner London borough holding city status. Greater London is governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

London is considered to be one of the world's most important global cities and has been termed the world's most powerful, most desirable, most influential, most visited, most expensive, innovative, sustainable, most investment friendly, and most popular for work city in the world. London exerts a considerable impact upon the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. London ranks 26 out of 300 major cities for economic performance. It is one of the largest financial centres and has either the fifth or sixth largest metropolitan area GDP. It is the most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the busiest city airport system as measured by passenger traffic. It is the leading investment destination, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. London's universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe, and is home of world-class institutions such as Imperial College London in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and the London School of Economics in economics, finance, and business. In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted three modern Summer Olympic Games.

I like it; very tough groups with very good players! Diego and Andrey make very good "also-rans" taking the place of more est. stars like Federer and Murray! :dance2:

ATP Finals will be played without lines people marking the first time Hawk-Eye live will be used in the ATP Finals.

With as much money as tennis has generated over the decades, it's ridiculous it took them this long to get to this point w/ the tech avail.!

I’ll be surprised if Tsitsipas defends his title, and though they’re both game, I don’t think Rublev or Schwartzman will win it. But this is the beauty of this event, now and then we get outliers taking the trophy. Davydenko being the most obvious example but I’d say the last two winners as well. Zverev will be hard to beat, and Group Tokyo looks especially interesting.

I’m going for Rafa and Thiem to come out of the London group, and any two from four to come out of the Tokyo group...

I think Djokovic clearly wins Atp finals, but its going be easy at for him, he loves breaking Federer records so is big chance for him. Also king Nadal has great shot at winning the Exhibition finals as well.

I’ll keep it clean and say, the porn industry doesn’t thrive through social distancing!

He’s a part-time lover, that’s for sure, but I hope he doesn’t get in the way. I don’t know what the bloke has on Rafa but I’d have been much happier if you said uncle T was in London, instead...

Dominic Thiem nailed a W to the door - 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. Good start for him, and not too disastrous for Tsitsipas, given the format...

Nadal eats his starter without spilling a crumb, the main course in this group awaits.

But I think Tsitsipas might be in trouble here, Rublev has a good record, and has won their only hard court encounter. He leads their H2H 2-1 (I don't include the diapers victory Tsitsipas got in the hopefully aborted next gen thingy). I'm coming to suspect Tsitsipas of emotionalism of some form, and I think he might feel the pressure when they play.

Rublev has also won both matches with Thiem this year, so I doubt he's going to be too downhearted. We've seen players in the position he's in now not only win their group, but also the title...

Well, it's a bit early for that. He faces Thiem, who hasn't been insignificant this year, and if he gets to the semis, it could be a hard ask. But he's started well, and that's important...

Yes, you do know what Moyà "has" on Rafa...he's been a mentor and a friend since Rafa was 12. He got Nike and Babolat to sponsor him as a tot, and Rafa is loyal. I don't think it's misplaced, either. Anyway, we'll agree to disagree on Charlie, but you can give up on Toni coming back. Rafa's a grown-up and an experienced player. Also, Roig is a steady presence. Perhaps Rafa doesn't need as much coaching as he used to.

Rafa was in very good form, but it's fair to say Rublev never got on a rhythm serving. I do expect him to do better, now that he's shaken off the maiden YEC nerves. I don't mind at all that Nadal got him early. I agree that he could trouble both Tsitsipas and Thiem...they're going to feel the pressure to best the younger man, something Nadal doesn't really have...since they're basically all younger now. :lol6:
