The Tournament:

The Miami Open (also known as the Miami Masters, and currently branded as the Miami Open presented by Itaú for sponsorship reasons) is a tennis tournament held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is part of the men's ATP Tour Masters 1000 circuit, and part of the women's WTA 1000 circuit. The Miami Open is usually held between March and April.

The tournament had historically been held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Florida from 1987 through 2018, before moving to Miami Gardens for 2019. Behind the Indian Wells Masters, it is the second event of the "Sunshine Double"—a series of two consecutive hard court tournaments in the United States at the beginning of the season. They are the only tournaments besides majors where main draw play extends beyond eight days.

About Miami:

Miami, officially the City of Miami, is a coastal metropolis and the seat of Miami-Dade County in South Florida. With a population of 442,241 as of the 2020 census, it is the second-most populous city in the state of Florida after Jacksonville. The Miami metropolitan area is the ninth-largest in the United States with a population of 6.138 million in 2020. The city has the third largest skyline in the U.S. with over 300 high-rises, 58 of which exceed 491 ft (150 m).

Miami is a major center and leader in finance, commerce, culture, arts, and international trade. Miami's metropolitan area is by far the largest urban economy in Florida, with a gross domestic product of $344.9 billion as of 2017. According to a 2018 UBS study of 77 world cities, Miami is the second richest city in the U.S. and the third richest globally in purchasing power. Miami is a majority-minority city with a Hispanic population of 310,472, or 70.2 percent of the city's population, as of 2020.

I don't know what rock I've been living under that I missed Djokovic's decision to withdraw, a few days ago. In other news, Sinner's elbow seems to be fine.

I think that loss to the youngster put his priorities in order. He had no points to defend anyway, so really no loss. The bad news for him is he doesn't have much room to gain points since he will be defending a mountain starting at RG

I read an interview. He's talking about balancing "private and professional" life, which may be just palaver. He did mention he hasn't won a tournament yet this year, which I hadn't quite realized. Since, as you mention, he has a ton of points to defend on clay, probably smart to focus on that.

When I looked back, I saw that you had. I just missed it. Distractions. Funny that he's Miami anyway, no?

He is practicing life balance, time with family and friends, apart from focusing next on the clay season

Watched some of the match between American youngster Darwin Blanch who was given a WC, he did give a good account of himself against Machac, he trains at the JCF academy also practices with Alcaraz and is his hitting partner, at 16 yo he is one of the youngest players to receive a WC into a Masters tournament though he does belong to IMG :) Blanch made SF RG,SFW, R16 USO, career high No 4 junior.
He does remind of Ben Shelton same hair and colouring and also a lefty.

And Monfils gets it done! I love this late-career surge from him.
