only two more five setters and Australian Open 2024 will have a new record of AO 5 setters, though someone in the commentary box says the US Open 1983 holds the record at 35, at odds with 34 that was mentioned on another article.

good one here by Simon Cambers. So yeah US Open '83 does indeed hold the record at 35 five setters during the championship. Jimmy Connors won it that year but don't recall him going 5 at all. He pretty much cruised through.

It’s quite possible a record number of 5 setters at a major will be set here. With guys like Medvedev, Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic still in the mix, it could happen.

We’ve seen him work his way into matches, after slow starts, so it seems he’s doing that again. There’s a lot of time left, but it is a bad beginning.

Absolutely. Novak won the first set easily at their Wimbledon final, and then from there it was a war that Carlos won. (Thus far) Zerev is looking the best he has all tournament..

Agree about Zverev looking his best thus far. He won the first set 6-1 in just 29 minutes.
