It is going to be disappointing if Ruud doesn’t get this to a third. He has to start showing some progress against Novak and Rafa.

It’s only disappointing to him. I knew how this would play out. He hasn’t shown an interest this week in being more aggressive. He’s content to rally w/ Djoke which is a death sentence. He’s not good enough to control the baseline. Maybe when he’s tired of taking these losses he will grow a pair and take it to his opponent

After the presumed loss today, Ruud will be 0-4 in big title finals this year, including two Slams, the WTF, and Miami Masters.
Yeah and not even winning a set here is the final nail in the coffin. Despite the overwhelming number of predictions and the stats to show the likelihood of Djokovic winning 2-0, I decided to have some balls and give Ruud a chance and backed him to win a set. Not looking good now. Reasoning was perceived pressure on Djokovic to equal Fed's record of 6 titles here and also he wasn't great against Fritz so thought Ruud might frustrate him enough to cough up a set but seems he won't.

Do you win much for a bet on a player winning a set?

My first choice was over 21.5 games which if Ruud holds and Djokovic wins 7-5 6-3 would have won but I'd have only got back about €4 extra. Pointless.

Nah not at all. It's only €10 to get back €21 :D Cash out value is now €0.23. Thanks Ruud!
So you bet a tenner to win €21? That’s good odds! But you knew better than to take the bet, which is even better! :lulz1:

Well, glad I was not able to see this final. Looks like it was underwhelming. Novak has now tied Roger for most WTF championships, eh? Well, I have a feeling he will chew his arm off until there is nothing left to own every record, including sliding past Nadal in total grand slam victories. He will basically keep going until he beats Connors' record too. He seems to me like he could go another two or three years at least.

Djokovic is wrestling the WTF title from five years in a row of one Lost Gen (Dimitrov) and four Next Genners (Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Zverev).

He's by far the oldest WTF champion. In fact, only Roger in 2011 won it as a 30 year old.

Very disappointing from Ruud. I hope he goes home and adds someone to his team to get him some fight and grit in his game. His dad isn’t cutting it with just the baseline tactics. He can only get away with that if he has both a forehand and backhand.

And in all those matches he was the passive player. Carlito, Nads and Djoke were the aggressors in those matches

Don Fabio,

Well at least one of your favs won today....I went for a run after the 1st set the writing was on the wall lol!
It has been one of the most disappointing end of years finals, players not giving their best hopefully in 2023 it will be more challenging from the players who will qualify

If Ruud's coaches do not address his mess of a bhand he will not be winning anything major in 2023
Rafa exposed it at RG, Alcaraz exposed it at the USO and Novak did the same today.

When Ruud lost to rafa, i don’t remember the dissappointment in his playing from people being dissappointed in today’s performance. :) do i sense djoker hating?

Ruud is a class act, genuinely nice guy, not fake. I hope he breaks through.. he just doesn’t seem to have the athleticism and weapons to match the very elite consistently so will be tough

Novak, what can i say. I admire him more and more as time goes by. He keeps setting the bar higher and higher with his unparalleled discipline, dedication to his craft. He is an inspiration. They way he persevered this year, against evil forces. He was used as a political pawn by governments, attacked by political correct/speech police mob.. he was banned from many major masters titles/slams for not good reason other than he believes he doesn’t need vaccine. He was never a danger to anyone and now everyone realizes he was right. With all these forces against him, he was able to get 5 titles, including 1 slam and eoy cup. He ends the year as arguably the best and will go down as goat, no doubt in my mind. Djokovic is an indomitable force and not only the greatest to ever play but as a person, sets the bar high as-well. He is the epitome of work ethic, dedication, perseverance, courage and IMO sets a better standard than even rafa or roger. The latter play it safe and do as everyone tells them to do, novak shows us to stay true to your beliefs and have the courage to stay the course, it always pays off.

Yes, anticlimatic finish of the tournament. A few good matches in a group, but not the best tennis from the players in general. Hopefully next year will be better. This year would have been better if Alcaraz and Rune both played.

Satisfying end of the season for Novak. Well deserved.
