It's hard to see Serena not winning this. Unless Vika has completely reworked her serve in the last 2 weeks, she may not even make it to the final. Kerber and JJ will likely be exhausted as they have played alot recently to make the push to get to Istanbul. Aga and Sara do not have enough power. Petra and Li are too inconsistent for the RR format.

I think this all comes down to how the RR format pans out for some players and which group they end up. Serena is fine regardless, but everyone else will require some luck of the format.

Serena has been the 'player of the year'
I can't see another player winning the YEC.

If she's not wild and gifting, Petra K. can give Serena a run. However, you just don't know with her.

Road To The Title

ISTANBUL, Turkey - The TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul qualifiers were put into their respective round robin groups during the draw ceremony Sunday in Istanbul.

The Red Groups consists of Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber. The White Group consists of Victoria Azarenka, Li Na, Sara Errani and Jelena Jankovic.

Among the accomplishments of those in the Red Group are Williams being the reigning World No.1, Williams and Kvitova being former WTA Championships winners and Williams and Kvitova being Grand Slam titlists.

Among the accomplishments of those in the White Group are Azarenka and Jankovic being former World No.1s and Azarenka and Li being Grand Slam titlists.

Round robin play goes from Tuesday to Friday, with the Top 2 in each group advancing to Saturday's semifinals, where first place in the Red Group will play second place in the White Group and vice versa. Then the semifinal winners will play in Sunday's final.

Serena will have to play very well in this tough group

RE: Road To The Title

I don't know even off this year Serena has still beaten the players in her group. Kerber has been so off she never even made it to any of the rounds where she was supposed to face Serena. I am not saying Serena won't have to play well, but she certainly can have an off day and still win in that group where as the other ladies in that group not so much. I expect the biggest challenge to probably come from Kvitova if she shows up which is debatable since she hasn't played since having back issues.

RE: Road To The Title

Serena's group isn't really that tough. Radwanska who has lost before she even takes to the court vs Serena, Kerber also unlikely to trouble her. Even Kvitova, the potentially toughest match, in general Serena loves playing that style of player, big hitters who she can outmaneuver.

As always Serena looks smashing. Aggie and Li Na looks good too. Vika looks like a witch.

One thing is for sure, Serena and Vika will not be in the same bracket until the end.
Serena could still face Vika in the semis if Serena finishes first in her group and Vika second.

Well, that essentially ruins any chance for Aga. Not that I thought she would win, but ending up in the same group as Serena and Kvitova was horrible luck.

I don't see anything other than a Serena/Vika final, unless something goes really wrong in Vika's group, and she loses to Serena in the semis.
