Petra's statement via her official twitter account:
Thank you for all your messages. As you may have already heard, today I was attacked in my apartment by an individual with a knife
In my attempt to defend myself, I was badly injured on my left hand. I am shaken, but fortunate to be alive. The injury is severe and I will need to see specialists, but if you know anything about me I am strong and I will fight this. Thank you all again for your love and support

Not looking good then. Probably surgery and a long recovery. Maybe back to form in time for Wimbledon w/ a PR?

Petra attacked . However, it looks like a random act of a thief and it does not appear that Petra was specifically targeted.

Seems to be a little bit serious Update on @Petra_Kvitova: out of surgery, in a cast and unable to bear weight on hand for three months.

It was probably random. Even people from the town didn't know where exactly is her appartment. There was not her name on the home bell.

PRAGUE (AP) — Petra Kvitova's spokesman says the surgery on the two-time Wimbledon champion's left hand was successful and she is recovering.

Kvitova was injured Tuesday when a knife-wielding intruder attacked her at her home in the town of Prostejov. The attacker is still at large.

Kvitova underwent nearly four hours of surgery on Tuesday.

Karel Tejkal, Kvitova's spokesman, says the Czech player feels good and that her surgeon considers the operation to be a success.

Kvitova is expected to resume her career, but she will miss the Australian Open and a significant part of the season after damaging tendons in her left hand. She also has injuries to all five fingers and two nerves.

According to doctors Petra will most likely miss Wimbledon as the injury is pretty serious. The treatment will be divided in several phases. Leading surgeon in Kvitova's operation says in press that she'll need half year of healing & treatment but is optimistic for future career.

If you believe that's a random attack I have a bridge to sell you. There's more to this story.

1. They say that very few people even know where she lives and the apartment does not have her name written in any way either.

2. It is not like she is grabbing all the grand slams of recent past that a fan of some rival decided that the best way to remove her from contention is to attack her. Kvitova, as all of us know, can push the self-destruct button in matches at her whim and go down as easily as she seems unbeatable when firing.

3. I believe Petra's dominant hand is left hand in real life as well (unlike Rafa). It appears that instead of going down quietly, she fought with the burglar. If so, she would have naturally used her left hand in that fight and that obviously explains why her left hand is injured.

Of course, I could be wrong and it could be targeted. However, the evidence at this time does not indicate so.

This has nothing with anyone trying to remove her from contention it has nothing to do with tennis. It is one of her men who was probably trying to get back at her. Nothing at all about tennis the girl is very loose.
