MIAMI - SONY Open Tennis - March 17th to 30th

Well folks, Get ready for the action. No rest for the weary.

The draw is out.

Here are the projected quarterfinals assuming seeds behave.

Serena William vs. Angelique Kerber
Maria Sharapova vs. Petra Kvitova
------------------------------------------------
Simona Halep vs. Aga Radwanska
Li Na vs. Jelana Jankovic

Here is the full draw.

p.s. Note to Si Si: If Aga withdraws from Miami after the qualifying starts tomorrow,
she will be replaced by a lucky loser and Halep will get her own quarter with a pseudo
opponent. Lot better than simply having your own quarter with a real opponent.

I am reading on other tennis sites that Aga has withdrawn from Miami?
Can anyone confirm that please?

I don't know whether she has announced withdrawal yet. She probably will not announce
too soon as she can buy about 5 days of time before her first match (remember that there
is a bye in the first round).

But, the timing of her announcement of withdrawal (in case she does so) will matter
to others.

If she withdraws after qualifying starts (which is tomorrow morning 11 a.m.), she
can only be replaced by a lucky loser.

If she withdraws before qualifying starts, the next person in waiting line will get
main draw entry, but will not go directly into Aga's spot. They will readjust the
draw (it is a complicated, but predetermined procedure that they follow) to
balance the quarters out when replacing a seeded player.

Maybe it was just some fan's of Aga wanting her to withdraw from Miami because of knee issue.
I agree with your post.Thanks.

Miami, Yeah! You can have the desert...give me the sun and the ocean. Go Serena! in the words of the Diana Ross song: It is my house and I live here. Serena, this is your house.

I hope to see Rena and Petra in the semis.

Serena is the number one player in the world, it could be argued any draw she gets is workable.

I am well aware she is the number 1 player, but aside from some unbalanced play in Dubai she hasn't played essentially in two months. Sometimes, she does have her slow starts. I know she can win ugly, but I would like to see some signs of life from Serena, so far she has been very muted. I hope she makes some noise this tournament and wakes up.

I hope Aga withdraws to give herself some much needed rest. Her small frame is a blessing and a curse.

Well, from my view, she, Serena, is in practically the same position she was at this time last year. One tournament win and people second guessing her tennis.

Happy to see Halep move up in the rankings. Jelena said her goals was to reach the top 3 and she has moved, finding herself right behind Halep at #6. Can Petra rise in the rankings by making a move in Miami. She only won two matches there last year, so with a good showing she could have a chance to get to number 7. Kerber also only won two matches last year, so if she plays her best tennis...who knows - #8?

It's in the bag!!! Maria all the way

She has a kind draw. If she does not even make QF, it would be time to consider
becoming full time commentator.

Petra may be even #6, though it's Miami, where she always straggles with her asthma:s, so I don't expect too much.

I will go with Serena. Whether she is feeling good or bad, she usually finds a way to make it deep into this tournament.

I am interested to see how Venus plays in Miami.Venus played great in Dubai.
There is a potential Halep v Venus match in the 3rd rd.Though it is probably to Halep's advantage to play Venus early, rather than late in this tournament.

I voted for Serena. If she wants to re-establish that dominance she had last year, it's high time she played some good tennis. She's been rather inconsistent all year (even in Brisbane).

Well for Serena, it is about getting that serve right. It has been slightly off from last year. Her return game has also not been as sharp as it was last year. I think if she fine tunes those elements she will be back on track.

However, if she has been having back issues, I can understand the serve and some of the return issues. Back issues may be a sign that she has been overplaying, and she may need to cut back here and there.
