World Number 1 Serena Williams was made to work for 7-6(5) 6-2 win over Alize Cornet and joins the other names in Round 3.

The competition is about to heat up with Williams, Kerber, Keys, Stosur, Navarro and Garbine Muguruza still very much in the running after posting Round 2 victories.

No big shocks took place but a couple of big names did get bounced out of the competition, albeit to strong opposition.

Former World Number 1, Caroline Wozniacki saw the end of her Singles ambitions as she was comfortably defeated by a confident Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic. The Dane went down 6-2 6-4.

Australian Open champion and World Number 2 Angelique Kerber had too much for Canada’s Genie Bouchard. Bouchard had already survived a tough match with Sloane Stephens. Kerber gave her little opportunity to settle and ran out a 6-4 6-2 winner.
