With all these young players arriving on the scene, the late bloomers suddenly getting results and the old timers refusing to go away, the grouping can get kind of fuzzy but what years are the cut off points for the Generations? We've got the Current Generation (Federer, etc.), the Lost Generation (Nishikori etc.) and the Young Generation (Coric, et.).
First the Current Generation:
Novak Djokovic 1987-05-22
Roger Federer 1981-08-08
Andy Murray 1987-05-15
Stanislas Wawrinka 1985-03-28
Tomas Berdych 1985-09-17
David Ferrer 1982-04-02
Rafael Nadal 1986-06-03
Gilles Simon 1984-12-27
Jo Wilfried Tsonga 1985-04-17
Richard Gasquet 1986-06-18
Kevin Anderson 1986-05-18
Gael Monfils 1986-09-01
John Isner 1985-04-26
Feliciano Lopez 1981-09-20
Viktor Troicki 1986-02-10
Tommy Robredo 1982-05-01
Ivo Karlovic 1979-02-28
Andreas Seppi 1984-02-21
Pablo Cuevas 1986-01-01
Juan Monaco 1984-03-29
Then the Lost Generation
Nishikori, Raoni, Dimitrov, etc...
And finally the Young Generation
Dominic Thiem 1993-09-03
Bernard Tomic 1992-10-21
Jack Sock 1992-09-24
Borna Coric 1996-11-14
Nick Kyrgios 1995-04-27
Jiri Vesely 1993-07-10
Diego Sebastian Schwartzman 1992-08-16
Thanasi Kokkinakis 1996-04-10
Hyeon Chung 1996-05-19
Lucas Pouille 1994-02-23
Denis Kudla 1992-08-17
Marco Cecchinato 1992-09-30
Kimmer Coppejans 1994-02-07
Taro Daniel 1993-01-27
Kyle Edmund 1995-01-08
Alexander Zverev 1997-04-20
Bjorn Fratangelo 1993-07-19
Elias Ymer 1996-04-10
Facundo Arguello 1992-08-04
Yoshihito Nishioka 1995-09-27
Would this grouping be accurate? For example, I sometimes wonder if Sock should be included in with the Corics and Zverevs, but Thiem and Tomic seem to be included in the young group usually so I gues this is where he belongs. Can't remember who it was, maybe JLLB divided up the generations by years once in a thread but I couldn't find it again. Would Current (1981-1987), Lost (1988-1991) and Young (1992-) be accurate?
I mainly want to know who should be included in the Young generation and what year is the cut off date. Would it be any player born in 1992 and on is considered the Young Generation?
I got this list of players and their birthdates from tennisabstract.com.
