The Tournament:

A French national tournament has been held since 1891. For some time it was open only to French citizens, or members of French clubs. In 1925, it was opened to international amateurs, and in 1968 it was the first Grand Slam event to go "open," allowing amateurs and professionals to compete. It has always been played on clay. In recent years there has been great controversy over plans to either expand the current facilities, or relocate the event. Relocation seems to be off the cards, but the expansion plans are still being debated and fought in the courts.

About the City:

Paris is the chicest of cities. No city is more casually or aggressively fashionable. But put on your scarf and gird yourself for an argument, because no place likes to talk philosophy, film, wine like Paris. It's both intimidating and invigorating.

FO draw comes out in a few hours. Will it be live streamed? I don’t want to see Serena anywhere near MS while she’s still vulnerable. The last two times these two were in the same quarter, MS won the title.

Interesting projected matches of each round. If you can only watch one match each round, these are the ones to watch.

R1 Garbage vs. Kuznetsova

R2 Azrenka vs. Ostapenko

R3. Meldopova vs. Pliskobot

R4. Serena vs. Meldopova / Pliskobot

QF. Garbage vs. Serena / Meldopova / Pliskobot

SF. Halep vs. Garbage / Serena / Dopopova / Pliskobot.

F. No decision to make. There is only one match in this round.

Serena and MS meet early. This is a bad omen.

I think MS will. Her path isn’t difficult. I don’t want Serena losing to her, even if it means she goes home in round 1.

I don't think Sharapova can get past Pliskobot. Simona has a nightmare draw. I don't see her getting back to the final let alone winning it this year.

Are we all in agreement that Svitolina has the best chance of winning the trophy?

Since Halep likely won’t win it, I’m hoping for Petra.

I think this might be her last year on tour and she's not saying anything. I don't see the same passion from her this year as last year. She's being bossed from the baseline by nobodies when we all know she has one of the most aggressive games out there.

Defending champ off to a slow start. Hopefully Osta turns this around.
