Awful loss for her. Drove past her tennis club in Riga last Thursday. She and all of Latvia must be devastated losing so early. Apparently her ranking will only drop to out of the top 10 but still a completely crap result.

Thats a damn shame that Ostapenko laid an egg

With the way women's tennis is at this time, no one should be surprised; even with early round losses! They've finally gotten their act together and aren't allowing "any" elite player to just own them! Bout time! Ostapenko was not going to repeat so she might as well bow out now! Why does Venus even bother? :lol3: :nono: :p

Cibby lost a war in Strasbourg. I'm not too confident she'll get out the first round here. She's playing Julia Georges.

I saw most of that match. She had 2 mp's that she didn't really execute on. Pavs just took it to her.

If you saw Wozniacki test her rackets - this is why:

"The service break to 3-0 in the 2nd set was important." Coach Piotr Wozniacki quoted by @johasger. And Dame Wozniacki used all of her 8 racquets. They were losing up to 2 kg of tension during the match

This is so ridiculous; tensions lost in rackets this quickly that she was out of them before 2nd set done? Unbelievable! If she was really any good, she should have been able to beat this girl with an old wood racket! :lol3: :nono:

Well Fiero - Collins is actually a very good player and you wouldn't say as you do IF you saw the match. Strings are sensitive against heat and moist weather - e.g.it's raining in RG now and no more play before tomorrow

Serena used that plump backside of hers and unleashed that hammer serve of hers..2nd serve sucked today but it plus her movement will get better as she progresses throughout the tournament.

It was nice to see Serena back on court. Hopefully, she can make a solid run here and make at least the 3rd or 4th round. I wish she had at least gone for it on her returns a bit more today even if she missed, but this is her first Slam match back. I am sure she will put her foot on the pedal now that she has a win under her belt.

Garbage took out Kuzzy. It looks like only the first was competitive.

She's a lot fitter than she was in Miami. Still would like to see her drop another 10 lbs. She was already a 1/2 step behind before she had the kid.
