Felix sort of surprised late in each of those sets, but Zed was too nervy, as is his way. Wanted it too much. Good win for FAA.

Expectations can be a real b!tch! Sascha had to be feeling it as his ranking was higher than FAA! It's what's kept him being "the best player not to win a major!" He'll probably have to be satisfied w/ that Olympic Gold & 2 previous YEC's missing the window of true success! :fearful-face::yawningface::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face:

Zed gets too defensive and dosent play offensive, when he should, same old story with Zed, he dosent play to win, Felix kept his nerve and didnt looked nervy at all even when he had BPs against, he played to win, a deserved win from Felix, he is a very good indoor player, he has the results to back it up
BTW The first set with Sinner v Felix was the best quality of the indoor matches soo far, a shame that Felix got a left calf issue for the 2nd set, good news was he had a day off and has recovered well

Ever since FAA branded his MRS, he's been playing inspired tennis. It's nice to see. Let's see what he can do against the blonde #1 tomorrow.

Okay come on Jannik and lets serve this match out 5-2 Forza!
Jim Courier called Jannik ' a cold assassin' commies used to call Graf a silent assassin' back in her playing days!
To de Minaur's credit he worked hard in the 1st set to make it competitive, probably the best tennis I have seen him play this year
Sinner d de Minaur 74 62 to make the finals, he extends his H2H 13-0 against Alex
18th consecutive sets won at the ATP Final - a new record
30th consecutive indoor win
This is Janniks 10 final of the year in 12 tournaments played and his 3rd consecutive ATP Final
Jannik has reached the final without dropping a set!

Well we only want one final now, don’t we? I don’t there’s many want Carlos opponent (I forget who he is :lol6:) in the final. People complain sometimes about the same faces turning up all the time to collect the trophies, but they do that because they’re the best. If Felix gets there, it’s a safe prediction he’ll lose, with a handy side bet on him playing a close first set before predictably folding his tent in the second, posing smugly for cameras afterwards, as if he’s achieved something.

We’ve seen this so often over the last 20-odd years and we don’t need it now.

#1 versus #2, the most meaningful match there can be..

Players able to reach the final at all the 4 Grands Slams and the ATP Finals in the same year,
Fecderer 2006,2007
Djokovic 2015, 2023
Sinner 2025
End of list! BTW Jannik is the youngest to achieve it at age 24 !

Just finished listening to Gil Gross podcast match between Zed and Felix
As Gil pointed out and rightfully so, you just have to cringe these days watching Zed ' self destruct' his fhand his biggest problem lets him down time and time again, again in this match against Felix, Zed continues to play defensive tennis, instead of being aggressive when he has the chance,
Felix facing BPs held his nerve and produce good first serves to save the BPs. Felix deserved his win and to be in his first semi final at the ATP Finals

BTW,
Felix is going to be a Top 5 player, career high, when the ranking come out on Monday, he has won 24 of his last 30 matches, his previous highest ranking was No 6 in 2022, he went into the USO this year, ranked at No 27
Felix could go as high as No 4 if he wins the title in Turin.

Alex de Minaur will end the year at No 7, he and Fritz will have the same points but the way the tie break is calculated, for the year, Fritz will be No 6.

I'm really happy to see Felix do so well the last few months. It feels less like a return to 2021-22 and more like a breakthrough to a new level. According to Tennis Abstract, he ended 2022 with an Elo of 2042 and is at 1976 before the Finals. He should end the year up over 2000, and I suspect he'll reach a career high sometime next year. I don't expect him to be a #1 challenger, and he'd be hard-pressed to get by Sincaraz for a Slam, but I'm really hoping this means he's broken out as a bonafide good 2nd tier guy. He is already 25, which is crazy, but I'd put good money on him having a better second half of his 20s than the first. He's also my number one candidate for new Masters winner in 2026.

Very happy for Felix!

BTW, I heard TC use "Sincaraz" today, which I'm pretty sure you coined here quite a while back. :)

Well, it is a pretty obvious one...I can't really claim any kind of clever brilliance on that one (and I just prefer it to ....Alcanner? Carnik? Janlos?). I believe I coined Lost Gen, which I've seen various places. Hey, we have an impact, Moxie ;)

I think you had one better alternate that you put forward: Alcasin, maybe? Anyway, perhaps Sincaraz was inevitable, but we had it ages ago. And, yes, "Lost Gen." I forgot that was you. Sorry. I know it seems a bit arrogant to say, but we have been around since we were the Tennis.com message board. We may be small, but we still have some of the more interesting conversations out there. I've heard too many things that we've discussed here repeated on TC to not believe that at least some producer there reads our forums.

As usual, you're pretty harsh. Yes, Sascha is a punk, but he's had a better career than all but about 30 players in the Open Era. (I say "30" off the top of my head....it could be 40 depending upon criteria, but either way, he's had a great career, with or without a Slam title).

I had to laugh! Me, harsh? Just tellin' it like it is! It may not be fair, but majors is how we judge the level of greatness from our tennis stars! Funny, when I started playing, it wasn't as important in the grand schene of things as Borg played AO once while he single-handedly gave the FO > status power winning 6 over 8 yrs.! Many top players skipped some events depending on their ability to compete or avoiding that trek "down under!" Sascha has had his chances; Djokovic getting DQ'd in a USO allowing Thiem his lone major win in 2020! The windows of success IMO will close sooner w/ the level of comp. tough & of course chronic injuries! If Zverev can't get past FAA, he's done! He can make a living, but I just can't see him elevating his game to eliminate The New Big 2! Even old man Djokovic has still competed tougher, taking Carlos out at the AO earlier this yr.! That gave Sascha a clear path to the Final, but again he couldn't finish getting wiped out by Sinner!:fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face:

Finally back as I had 2 friends at the final in Turin and they were texting me through out the match
Also answering email from my Italian friends and family!

What can I say about Sinner on indoor courts, he is soo tough to break against and win, he just closes downs and produces some of his best tennis to win! Sinner d Alcaraz 76(4) 75 and Jannik handled the pressure well today
This is Sinner's second ATP Final without dropping a set
31 Consecutive Indoor match wins!
20 Consecutive sets won at the ATP Finals - a New Record
24 Career title win
6th title of 2025.
Sono Cosi Orgogliso De Te Jannik!
Jannik will not be playing DC, which I feel is a wise decision
Carlos and Jannik will play a exho match against each other on 10th January 2026 in Seoul
Have a good rest Jannik, and I will see you live at the AO in 2026!
Jannik finishes his season,
58 wins
6 losses
6 titles ( 2 slams ATP F M1000)
11,500 points for the No 2 ranked player

Not to be a bummer, but Alcaraz blew some chances. Terrible TB in the 1st set, and lost his early break in the 2nd set. Anyway, it keeps the rivalry interesting.

Well, Alcaraz is YE #1 but like the first time, he's gotten help. In 2022 it was Novak being banned from the AO and not getting Wimbledon points, and Rafa getting hurt. In 2025 it is Sinner's ban. Not saying it wasn't an impressive year--by my accounting it is around the 20th best of the Open Era, or thereabouts, but it would be nice to see him win it entirely on his own power.

Fun fact about Sinner's season: It is his second year in a row above 90% win percentage. It is only the 26th such season in the Open Era. Number of seasons with 90 W%:

5 Lendl
4 Connors, Borg, Federer
2 Nadal, Djokovic, Sinner
1 Vilas, McEnroe, Murray

Note absence of a bunch of ATGs: Laver, Agassi, Sampras, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, and Alcaraz. Alcaraz was really close, and assuming he has another couple seasons at least this good, he'll get there.

Fun fact: Rafa's two seasons with 90% aren't 2008 or 2010. They're 2013 and 2019. I still think that the best version of Rafa was 2013. He missed the AO and it was the Year of Darcis, but his overall level--especially through the US Open--was the highest of his career, imo.
