The Tournament:

The Miami Open (also known as the Miami Masters, and currently branded as the Miami Open presented by Itaú for sponsorship reasons) is a tennis tournament held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is part of the men's ATP Tour Masters 1000 circuit, and part of the women's WTA 1000 circuit. The Miami Open is usually held between March and April.

The tournament had historically been held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Florida from 1987 through 2018, before moving to Miami Gardens for 2019. Behind the Indian Wells Masters, it is the second event of the "Sunshine Double"—a series of two consecutive hard court tournaments in the United States at the beginning of the season. They are the only tournaments besides majors where main draw play extends beyond eight days.

About Miami:

Miami, officially the City of Miami, is a coastal metropolis and the seat of Miami-Dade County in South Florida. With a population of 442,241 as of the 2020 census, it is the second-most populous city in the state of Florida after Jacksonville. The Miami metropolitan area is the ninth-largest in the United States with a population of 6.138 million in 2020. The city has the third largest skyline in the U.S. with over 300 high-rises, 58 of which exceed 491 ft (150 m).

Miami is a major center and leader in finance, commerce, culture, arts, and international trade. Miami's metropolitan area is by far the largest urban economy in Florida, with a gross domestic product of $344.9 billion as of 2017. According to a 2018 UBS study of 77 world cities, Miami is the second richest city in the U.S. and the third richest globally in purchasing power. Miami is a majority-minority city with a Hispanic population of 310,472, or 70.2 percent of the city's population, as of 2020.

Always fancied visiting Miami. The closest I got was Orlando or Tampa - whichever is nearest in Florida. Still got an Emit Smith Gators top from my last visit circa 1990.

I'll probably avoid ever going to such a loony state w/ their corrupt gov't. crime, & incredibly stupid events that occur making international news! ;)

I guess you had to wait! I'm surprised we're waiting to see who wins IW's! The #1 ranking's up for grabs by Alcaraz! Is 380 wks. a good # to rest on?
Nah. I hope he gets to 400, because I'm a stat nerd. 400 is cool.

I didn't know that, either, but I've been to both, and Miami is WAY cooler. Miami is a great city! I know a lot of people diss FL for many reasons, (and many justified,) but there is a lot to be said for it.

Love Miami, but you cannot drag me out there in July or August, the humidity will kill me. ; )

Agreed, while I have been vocal about moving IW away from March, I actually like the March/early April dates for Miami. It's in the peak of high school senior trip/spring break season. The humidity in August is a lot worse in Florida than it is at Indian Wells.

That humidity in Miami is nothing to what we experience in Australia btw, I have always thought they should move the AO later, though then if it is held in February that is our most humid month, tennis is a Summer sport, players have to get used to all conditions and prepare for them, especially in hot and humid conditions
