This could be the lamest US Open in a decade.

The worst tv coverage ever. The worst commentating.

Tons of blow outs and retirements.

On the WTA side the one dimensional play and homogeneous styles are mind
numbing.

The match scheduling has no flow.

No Rafa to boot.

Am I completely off the mark?:s

I don't think I've ever seen one GS go past that wasn't described as the lamest ever at one point. :p

Heheh...can't say that about most others..IMO.....

Although I must say I enjoyed the Federer Groth match tremendously.

No celeb interviews, mono cutaways to some lame doubles match, and great tennis..

Coverage is poorly done, disjointed, and lacking good commentating... some good matches though and the seeded players doing what they're supposed to in the earlier rounds. We'll see how the 2nd week shapes up before calling this one.

Agree. I also don't see any standard setting tennis. A few decent five setters and back from the brink comebacks....but...the ad hoc presentation is incredibly uninspired.

Go Fed....

It is probably a lame first week. That is it.

True....I certainly think things should get more exciting next week.

don't agree..its interesting seeing younger players in the early rounds, and seeing fedster slap back groths rockets was a laugh.

Hey that's some pessimistic thinking there!
I didn't like either that US Open is without Rafa this year but you seem sad about the earlier good players who lost. They gave place to new and younger talented people! I'd say that one is good!

Having the Open spread out over three separate networks, with different ways of approaching the matches and the tournament itself, it's impossible to build upon a story, pull things together, or connect any dots really. Lux, even if the tennis gets better in the second week, this will still be a drag on the event.

I'm hardly sad about any of the losses so far...

Agree. Especially since they insist on hiring tv "personalities" whose lack of tennis knowledge is rather embarrasing. Tennis requires one sport analysts, not morons who slip and out to cover McSports. .

Only two of the top twenty players went home on or before the third round started.
I am not sure of the stat. But, I think/heard that this is happening after a long time,
say 10 years or so.

With all folks who are expected to win mostly winning and that too without much
trouble, the tourney appears lame. But, I would rather take this than the chaos
that WTA is in, where I no longer know more than half the people left in the draw.

Today was a better day overall, and tomorrow the schedule is lit up.

Did the WTA outlaw slice backhands and volleys?? Just askin'....
