Andy Murray has a history of crashing out early at IW:
He lost to qualifiers both in 2011 - D. Young and 2012 G.G. Lopez.
This was always one of his weakest HC masters for some reason.

Here is the reason. He typically will lose at AO to Novak or to someone else, missing another opportunity to grab a GS trophy. Then, he will sulk for 3 or 4 months, before getting into winners circuit. This is his general pattern.

Poor daddy Andy, he played poorly one more time in IW, don't know what happened to him but it's a bad result

Novak and Nadal had difficult openers and Murray didn't survive his. Roger is probably laughing and glad he sat this one out.

You make it sound like Roger chose to have a surgery instead of making a fool of himself playing at IW

I am sure he skipped this event at the advise of his doctor.

Sure he did,but that doesn't mean he didn't want to play. Seeing the results, I had a picture of him chuckling to himself and saying to Mirka, "Glad the doc told me to stay home!"

Thiem v. Sock and Zverev v. Simon are two matches I shall look forward to seeing.

Young Ralph v 'dasco today. This is the kinda match that if Rafa wins it, we get to resurrect the "Incline" thread... :popcorn

Have you been following tennis lately?
Verdasco is now ranked 65, and beside beating Rafa at the AO, he is a punching bag all season.
Defeating Verdasco will not mean much in the larger picture.

It appears that when he plays against Rafa, Verdasco is allowed to turn back the clock due to Rafa's unagressive play

Not for 15 times and I hope today will be the 16 unless Rafa would play so bad like in the AO :cover

Meanwhile, Alex Zverev wins another, handily defeating Gilles Simon 6-2, 6-2. This kid is legit, y'all.

Next he'll face either Verdasco or Rafa. Rafa would be a nice accomplishment for him.

I don't know about that. Murray has not been very successful at IW, while at Miami he fared a lot better.
He is complaining about the balls flying here and being more difficult to control them.

Coric is 46. Zverev is 52 in live rankings. Zverev will surpass the counterpuncher very soon and take his place in the top twenty next year, barring injury. I wonder why Coric said he is the best of his generation. I guess players have to have that kind of mentality to survive the tour, but he looks silly saying that.

Oh suddenly you're all talking down his chances, and getting sneaky cheeky likes for it, even though AP is correct on this one. So if Rafa wins, you shrug and say it's no big deal, and if 'dasco wins, you all get to gloat louder. It's an old trick, not a very nice one... :dodgy:

Jeez, Coric is older than me. Shouldn't he be retired now ? :p
