However, it is not due to the occasion, but due to the tricky game of Monica. BUt, now
that SW got used to her game, I expect a realtively better second set win for SW. May be a
6-4 or 6-3 set.
Monica needed to win the first set to have some chance.
Good to see Serena overcome her nerves and take the first set. Hopefully she'll settle in now. I would love to see her win this tournament. What a story that would be. It's already a good story regardless.
Well I had expected this from Serena first time back, all eyes on the match, her opponent is known for having an interesting game and we know how Serena can be when faced with people who can throw interesting things at her.
All of those errors aren't from Monica's game. Let's be real GSM. Serena not moving her feet up to the ball doesn't have much to do w/ Monica. Nor does her poor 1st serve %.

A slice is effective (forehand or backhand) only if the ball can be kept low (and deep). While
Monica is able to slice deep, her forehand slices are not keeping the ball low. So, it is easy
for the opponent to attack it, once they overcome the surprise element of the slice shot itself.
What a hard fought game? Kudos to Monica for holding it. Before this game SW had 100% conversion on break points. In this game Monica saved at least two if not more.
p.s. Did the crowd clap for a long time after Serena fell down on a point in this game. :devil
