I doubt Pouille will have been a factor at all... more like feeling tired (he mentioned tiredness in his post-match interview)... after the Canada debacle, it's a smart move.
Mostly I think that's true. As I said on the other thread, Basel is also emotionally tiring for him. (He's said so.) He's protecting YEC, but if he'd had a softer couple of rounds he might have dipped his toe in.
