That is disappointing. He shouldn't be losing to the likes of Jerzy any more. Summer looked promising, has taken a few steps back since.

Must have been the bad hair. :speechless:

He's young; the sudden success and expectation, the new found celebrity and flow of cash... can tend to be a distraction.

Ernie Gulbis, who due to his miserable year has dropped out of the top 100, just upset third seed John Isner in 3 sets.

Come on Isner. :cover Dropping out of the Top 20 for good next year maybe.

We can only hope. :devil

Ha. But who will take up the star-spangled banner? Maybe Sock will be the next Anderson.

This is where American tennis is. We are not looking for the next Sampras. We are looking for the next player who just might be able to sniff the Top Ten. :cover

I would prefer Sock over Isner. Or just about anyone from the US over Isner.

It's not personal, either. I just don't like what Big Man Tennis represents. I imagine Isner, Karlovic, Anderson, and so on are nice guys in person, but I'd rather eat sawdust than watch them play tennis.

Do you like your sawdust gluten free or not?

GSM, stop it. You made me guffaw outloud and now my Japanese co-workers are looking at me like "crazy American." :snicker

Sock is good to watch. My favourite American player in recent years before that was Mardy Fish. He had a great aggressive all court game and could really take it to anyone on any given day. The guy barely played a match in 2 years and lost to Murray last time they played 6-4 7-6. Imagine if he was actually match tough and on tour properly before that. A real shame what happened to him and definitely left a void out there for American tennis. I always liked the sheer brutality of Blake's forehand in his prime years too. His forehand was incredible.

JW Tsonga is upset by Rosol. Seems he is not comfortable to stay in the top 10, he wants to get out a.s.a.p.
