About Davis Cup:

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from over 140 competing countries. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champions. The competition began in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States. By 2023, 155 nations entered teams into the competition.

The most successful countries over the history of the tournament are the United States (winning 32 titles and finishing as runners-up 29 times) and Australia (winning 28 titles, including six with New Zealand as Australasia, and finishing as runners-up 20 times). The current champions are Canada, who beat Australia to win their first title in 2022.

About Malaga:

Málaga is a municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. With a population of 578,460 in 2020, it is the second-most populous city in Andalusia and the sixth most populous in the country. It lies in Southern Iberia on the Costa del Sol ("Coast of the Sun") of the Mediterranean, primarily in the left bank of the Guadalhorce. The urban core originally developed in the space between the Gibralfaro Hill and the Guadalmedina.

Málaga's history spans about 2,800 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe. According to most scholars, it was founded about 770 BC by the Phoenicians from Tyre as Malaka. From the 6th century BC the city was under the hegemony of Ancient Carthage, and from 218 BC, it was under Roman rule, economically prospering owing to garum production. In the 8th century, after a period of Visigothic and Byzantine rule, it was placed under Islamic rule. In 1487, the Crown of Castile gained control in the midst of the Granada War. In the 19th century, the city underwent a period of industrialisation followed by a decay in all socioeconomic parametres in the last third of the century.

Jiri Lechecka was serving to win the rubber against Australia ( last years R/U) was broken by De Minaur and now is serving to force a TB for the 2nd set 5-6
Jiri won the 1st set 64
In the opening singles match T.Machac ( who is undefeated in DC matches this year) defeated J.Thompson 64 75
6 games all 2nd set between Lehecka and De Minaur TB has just started
After trying to serve for the tie, Lehecka played a dreadful TB and Australia breathe a 'sigh of relief' as De Minaur won 2nd set 76(2). Going 3 sets
Alex De Minaur comes back from being a set down against Lechecka 46 76(2) 75
Australia and Czech 1-1
Doubles will decide the tie! Australia are favored

Your Aussies looked in trouble there for awhile, but they move on.

Yes they were Alex du Minaur was the 'hero' for Aussies in that tie, breaking Jiri when he was serving for the tie in the singles, breaking him and the rest ifshistory, I thought the team of Purcell and Ebden could win the doubles.

Is Matteo just with Italy for moral support, or might they play him? The camera keeps showing him, but I think it's just that he's so photogenic. Anyway, Italy v. Netherlands in the deciding doubles match. Italy won the first set.

Matteo is just there for support, I read yesterday he is still having re-hab, and he hopes to come back and play at the AO., I have not read who is Matteo's new coach.

What a 'spirited' performance from the Italian doubles team Sinner/Sonego with a 63 64 over the experienced Netherlands team of Koolhof/Griekspoor
This rubber came down to the doubles and Italy won 2-1 to reach back to back SFs.
BTW Jannik Sinner replaced Simone Bolelli and Tallon Griekspoor replaced Jean-Julien Roger, in the doubles.
The 3 QFs so far have been decided in the doubles!

"Spirited" indeed. Sinner got tagged by a ball up at the net twice in one game, towards the end of the first set...once on the hand, then on the head. He was laughing, though. That might have been the game where they broke.

That is their only way to any victory in Davis Cup, because they are just bad in doubles. They don't have at least one doubles specialist of high quality which is crucial for Davis Cup. They had Zimonjic before.
Agree Don,
If Draper could have won that match and it was up to the doubles for a decider the GBR team far too experienced for Serbia
