It is kind of crazy how Novak is still #5...I guess that's what four Slam SFs will get you (4 x 800 = 3200 points, about two-thirds of his total).

IMO, it's just an extension of what I've been saying for the last few yrs.! You have the Top 2 while the other players are duking it out, unable to separate themselves from the others! Red-lining it can win for you & can contribute to a physical toll as we see more & more players complaining of injury! Again, the Big 3 showed themselves to be exception both mental & physically by winning wk. after wk.; rarely needing to take off a Masters event! It's common place now! :fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::yawningface::astonished-face:

I'd love to see him end on a high note and win one of those, though Brussels or Metz seems far more likely than Basel or Paris.
I have very low expectations for this run, but maybe he might get one good run out of those...

I get a feeling that he and his team are still making adjustments. Every match I see from him is quite different from the previous one. I am actually not liking what I am seeing, but they got this far already, so I assume they know what they are doing.

That's what happens when you have the weakest year of competition ever. September is about to end, and we only have one player (Alcaraz) with 50+ match wins. Back in the early 2010s, you had at least 8-10 players with 50+ match wins on the season.

If Novak had this type of year in the 2010s, he would be outside of the Top 10 by now. (Just look at his down year in 2017.)

As long as he stays in the top 8, he's in a decent pole position at Majors. He can keep hoping for a good draw, and for others to take out both Sinner and Alcaraz. Or, an amazing revival of his old form in Oz.

We agree on the weakest competition ever (well, that's a bit hyperbolic, maybe the summer of 1954 was a bit worst), but not exactly on how we get to that conclusion: I do not think that relative dominance necessarily means quality. In theory you could have an ultra-competitive field where no one has a definitive edge above the rest. If we had one hundred Djokovics in the top 100, hardly anyone would have more than one title, and still the level would be huge (yes, I know that would never happen).

Alex de Minaur wins by retirement 4-1 over Mensik. in the QFs in Beijing, Mensik had the trainer out he felt a short sharp pain in his knee. I suppose with Shanghai Masters just around the corner, he felt it wise not to make it worse and retired.
Sinner d Marozsan 61 75 , Sinner will play de Minaur in the SFs in Beijing

Tien wins via retirement over Musetti 46 63 30
Medvedev d Zverev 63 63 for the fourteenth time in his career!

In the 2nd SF,
Medvedev will play Tien

No 2 seed Taylor Fritz defeats Jensen Brooksby 64 63 in the SFs at Japan Open,
This is Taylor's 3rd final in 2025, second in Tokyo, he awaits the winner of Alcaraz - Ruud to play in the final

No 1 seed Alcaraz d Ruud (4) in 3 sets 36 63 64, actually the best tennis I have seen from Ruud on a HC, especially in the 1st set

Alcaraz will play Fritz in the final at the Japan Open

ATP Finals 2025 - Record Prize Money,

This year's edition in Turin will be the richest ever, with a total purse of $15.5 million.
The underfeated champion could walk away with a record $5,07 million, even more than Sinner's run in 2024, when he claimed $4.88 million by winning all 5 of his matches.
Just qualifying for Turin already gurantees, $331,000, while every pair earns $ 134,200 simply for participating, plus $96,000 per round robin victory

In the 1st SF at ATP500 Beijing,
Sinner d de Minaur 63 46 62, good effort from Alex, this is the 2nd set he's ever won against Sinner in 11 tour level meetings
Sinner reached his 3rd consecutive Beijing Final
13 wins and 1 loss at this event.
Sinner will play the winner of Tien v Medvedev in the final

In the 2nd SF,
A close first set, Tien was serving to force a TB for the 1st set, and DF and handed the 1st set to Medvedev 7-5
