Surprisingly enough, just like the other QF in the upper half, this will be their 5th meeting overall and their 2nd meeting at the US Open. Carreno Busta leads the H2H record 3-1 including their last meeting and their only meeting at the US Open 2017 4th Round.

By the way, this will be Shapovalov's first ever slam QF (great kudos to him!) and it will be interesting to see on how he handles this new situation.

This is a pick 'em match so a 50-50 match.

I haven't watched Shapo play this tournament. Is he finally settling down and looking like he's harnessing his considerable abilities?

Yes and No.

Fritz had him on the ropes,
I agree with Yes and No. He did have to play with more discipline to beat Fritz, in the late stages of that match. I actually saw the last match these two played at the Open live in Ashe. The one-liner on that match was sturdy v. erratic flash, but that makes PCB sound boring, which he's not. Has great depth on his shots. I'd say both have improved since the last match at the Open. If Denis brings discipline and calm early, he could win it. If it goes late 4th or 5, I think PCB will be more mentally prepared to land the plane. I'm going with Shapo, for the fun of it...in 4.

I agree Carreno Busta was like a wall and Djokovic couldn’t handle it both physically and mentally winning only 5 games in total.

Denis taking a bit of time to settle down and gives up the early break. I don't expect this to be the answer to the set.

EDIT: Though I didn't expect the break-back to come immediately.

But according to Cali’s logic, the fact that Carreno Busta was up a break early in the 1st set, if Shapovalov manages to win the match then he is super lucky because Carreno Busta should have won.

Commies made an interesting point earlier about Shapo getting up for the big moments, but maybe getting a bit TOO pumped. We've all talked about his lack of discipline, in general, and that he did seem somewhat better on that here. I think it's an interesting point having no crowd here might help Denis focus on the tennis, and stop worrying about being flashy for the crowd.

What a pass there from PCB, with Shapo serving for it.

First set Shapo, 6-3, quickly overcoming the early break.

PCB giving up too much court.
