What sanctions could the ATP place on a player if they call for a boycott and the player decides to play regardless? Would they then ban the players from all ATP regular tournaments as punishment? The 1973 boycott worked because the players believed in the merits of “the strike”. Today Players can rationalize “ I don’t agree with the sports federations/Majors acquiescing to the demands of their government but I understand why Wimbledon felt they were obliged to do it “. They have arguable “cover”.

The potential legal battle alone with countersuits by the players for suspending them makes your head spin.

So why are you quoting me? I didn’t say the players don’t have balls. I said they need to make a loud noise about this. And I believe/hope they will, through the ATP, and all the relevant tennis authorities. Through legal challenges and the threat of a boycott. International sporting bodies can’t be told by local governments who can and can’t play in their events, unless maybe a participant is wanted for a crime, which isn’t the case here. I realise they hold their events in countries which might have “a situation” going on, but this is different.

Good question about Novaks vanity project. Alcaraz along with Hubert Hurkacz had committed to an exhibition match at the Tatoi Club today.

Sorry, no it doesn't make even 0.0000001% sense. Medvedev, decent bloke, doesn't want any of this Russia v Ukraine saga and wants peace as most do. Rublev signing no war on the camera after matches. Likewise, why ban this guy? I'm just giving two top players as an example but it's the same for all affected players. They don't deserve this guilt by way of mere nationality. It's a disgrace. This was a bs move likely decided by the British government and Wimbledon didn't have the balls to say no.

I've heard that before! They thought they had protected Jennifer Capriati back in 1990, but her parents were so Narcissistic to allow the tour to tell them what to do with their 13 year old! The WTA relented with a clause in the rule called the "Capriati Rule!" If you became 14 within a month or 2, "you can play tournaments!" Well we know all about her rise, the spiral and subsequent "rise from the ashes!" It's happened a lot more than we know with parents who are out of control when it comes to their kid becoming a tennis phenom! I go back to the days of Tracy Austin and Andrea Jeager as a few others out here who will remain nameless!

I kept hearing about "so called" limitations, but I seemed to see Coco Gauff pret' near every week! She's not only wowing the sports' networks in singles, she's been doing well in doubles! They were even being featured in the coverage! IDK if it's done all that much for her to overplay like this the last couple years! Thinking of Chris Evert who said once that she hadn't ever gone snorkeling until her 1st husband John took her out in the Great Barrier Reef! She was raised in Florida! How could that happen outside of being very single-minded as a kid? Chris has given no indication she felt pushed and her parents seemed genuinely nice, but ya never know! Who knew about Joan Crawford?

Coco Gauff turned 18,just recently, so she is eligible to play now full tine on the WTA tour.

The Italian and French government are being pressured to ban Russian and Belusarian players from playing Italian Open and Roland Garros, respectively.

It's not set in stone, but both governments are considering the idea.

Man, it's getting crazier every minute.

Sorry...I wasn't implying that you had the same opinion, but trying to say the opposite. That's why I bolded your point about the top players weighing in. I guess I shouldn't have been so lazy and replied to each separately. I was trying to group the notion that individual players, especially the lower ranked ones, can't be faulted for not starting a movement. It should come from the governing bodies, and, as you said, and why I was quoting you, the top players. I don't know if these tournaments are feeling pressure from their governments or from the wider sports world, but it does seem completely misplaced in tennis.

Good one, but seriously...where is the Professional Tennis Players Association on this? Vasek Pospisil was also heavily involved and he's got nothing to lose by speaking out. If you wanted to make something out of your new PTPA, now would be the time, right?

Exactly. If they ever wanted to prove themselves, the time is now. In fairness, they're probably lining up their ducks as we speak. Most tennis players have been silent so far, maybe the ATP have advised them to wait and see?

Some good news: Roger Federer has confirmed he will play Basel Open this October. We do not know yet whether or not this is will be first Federer's tournament back.

I wonder if it will be his final tournament, whether he will retire at his home tournament? I know Roger has confirmed he will participate at the Laver Cup ( Rafa has also confirmed)
