The first ladies QF abut to start Jess Pegula v Barbora Krejcikova
Krejcikova leads their H2H 2-1 though their most recent match was at the WTA finals Riyadh in 2024 where Krejcikova won
A DF from Barbora hands Jess the break early, good start from Jess winning 12 of the 15 points and consolidates her break and leads 3-0
A poor service game from Jess, with a DF and Barbora breaks back on serve in the 1st set , Barbora to serve at 3-4
Pegula breaks and will serve for the 1st set 5-3
Pegula 6-3 1st set and has gone for a toilet break, Pegula's box which is usually 'low key' has really been quite vocal cheering Jess on.
One thing Barbora needs to address is her ball toss, it is poor, I noticed that in her match against Townsend, Jess takes advantage of Barbora's 2 DFs and breaks early in the 2nd set
Barbora in all kinds of trouble again on her serve, not the same player at all when she came back from being down a set from Townsend and won
Jess breaks and leads 4-1, Jess a poor service game and is broken,
Barbora holds serve, Jess leads 4-3
Jess needed that good service game 5-3,
Maybe that match against Townsend has had an effect on Barbora, especially her serve has let her down, though credit to Jess she has come out and not let Barbora play her kind of tennis, has really smothered the court.
Jess with MP
Pegula d Krejickova 63 63, Jess form wasnt great coming into the USO though she has turned her form around and has made the SF
Well done Jess!
Jess will play the winner of Sabalenka v Vondrousova in the SF.

BTW,
Jess Pegula becomes the first woman to reach back to back SFs without dropping a set since Serena Williams (2011-2014)

Sad News,

Marketa Vondrousova has withdrawn from her QF match against Sabalenka, I believe it is a knee issue, but to be confirmed, after her great run at the USO, also coming back from 2 surgeries in the last couple of years.
I just watched a video via social media of Marketa warming up on Ashe with her team, she looked looked awkward as she went to touch her left leg, and then stopped and walked over the her chair and put the towel around her face, then her coach was talking to her, and they left the court, she didnt appear to be limping, then went to the officials and withdrew.
Sabalenka was about to go and warm up for her match and then was told in the hallway that Marketa withdrew, apparently she has booked a court for practice before her SF match
Confirmed by Vondrousova on her instragram page it is a left knee issue and doctor advised her to withdraw

Sabalenka gets a walkover to the SFs where she will play Pegula

The dream run in the doubles comes to an end in the QFs for Venus and Leylah, the No1 seeds Siniakova/Townsend win 61 62, too good in all departments.

No 2 seeds Errani/Paolini d Muhammad/Schuurs (7) 61 76(5)

All 4 top seeds in the Womens Doubles made the SFs.
The last time the 4 Womens Doubles seeds made the USO SFs was in 1997

(1) Siniakova/Townsend vs (4) Kudermetova/Mertens

(2) Errani/Paolini vs (3) Dabrowski/Routliffe

I have a question,
Why do the Czech women players who possess great skills etc eg Muchova, Vondrousova and Krejcikova seem to get injured and their injuries have forced them to spend a lot of time off tour
Marketa for example has had to have a couple of surgeries ( shoulder) in the last couple of years, has played well at USO, and then picking up a left leg injury and had to withdraw
Krejickova has been out of the tour for most of this year, with a continuing back injury
Muchova cant seen to play a full year on the tour without some type of injury, most of the time she comes on court with some type of bandage on her shoulder, and legs
I have to question their strength training, are they doing enough apart from their practice on court, or is it their body types that seem to break down.

Ladies QFs match between Swiatek (2) vs Anisimova (8) H2H Iga leads 1-0
Amanda has such 'easy power' one of the best ball strikers in the WTA tour
Amanda with 2 SPs, Iga' serve has gone AWOL, Amanda teeing off on her 2nd serve
Amanda wins the 1st set 64
Iga taking a toilet break

Iga with her usual toilet break after she loses a 1st set, lets see if she can reset, her serve for starters has to improve,
Wim talking to Iga saying move her side to side, though when you get the flat hard quick return from Amanda hard to start spreading the court
Amanda serve got broken in her first service game, of the 2nd set, she must stop the rot and try to break back

Iga getting knocked off balance from the baseline again from Amanda and she breaks back
2 games all
Iga should stop going down the middle of the court, against Amanda not working

That's to be expected when you embarrass the girl at Wimby and don't let her win a game. I'm not saying she should throw the match, but you wouldn't like it if you couldn't post a single game on the board in a major final. Like I said before, she needs to be careful handing out bakery products. Nobody signs up to play a match like that. She's getting her comeuppance and I for one am glad to see it.
