Vuelta a España 2013 - The third of the big three Grand Tours (others being the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia)

Running from Saturday Agust 24th to Sunday September 15th 2013, the 68th Vuelta a España will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3.358,9 kilometres. These stages have the following profiles:

6 flat stages
13 mountain stages
1 team time-trial stage
1 individual time-trial stage

After a disappointing tour for me (being a Contador fan), I hope the Vuelta will be spectalair.

Too bad El Pistolero won't be competing because last year was awesome with Alberto taking on Purito and Valverde.


My pre-analysis will follow!

Okay, here's who I think are gonna be the favourites to win it or do great stuff at the general classification;

- Vincenzo Nibali [ASTANA] / The Shark of Messina is the winner of the Giro d'Italia this year. Skipped the Tour de France and was a little disappointing after his glorious win in the Maglia Rosa. Only man to really bad Bradley Wiggins this year in the Tirreno Adriatico.

- Alejandro Valverde [MOVISTAR] / Last year's #2. Performed very good in the Tour this year, and after the infamous stage where he lost 9 minutes to Froome got back in the Top 10 nevertheless. Movistar also has a pretty good team.

- Rigoberto Uran Uran [SKY] / Achieved prime time at the Giro this year and Olympics last year. Although Sky appointed Henao as leader, I think Uran is stronger and Henao will probably serve him in this Vuelta.

- Joaquim "Purito" Rodriguez [KATUSHA] / The best cyclist of the last week of the tour, best cyclist of the first 2 weeks of La Vuelta 2012. With Contador gone, to me he is absolutely the top favourite.

- Bauke Mollema [BELKIN] / Was already wearing the Red Jersey in 2011, and did a great Tour de France this year. With his strong helper Laurens ten Dam he is a favourite for the title.

- Roman Kreuziger / Rafal Majka [SAXO]
- Mikel Nieve / Igor Anton [EUSKALTEL]
- Daniel Navarro [COFIDIS]
- Ivan Basso [LIQUIGAS]
- Jakob Fuglsang [ASTANA]
