The Tournament:

The tournament was first held in 1976 as the Sillook Open in Tokyo. In 1982 it was renamed the TV Tennis Open and in 1983 it changed yet again to the Queens Grand Prix. Its current name, the Pan Pacific Open, was designated in 1984 and had traditionally been played on indoor carpet. In 2008 the event moved to outdoor hard courts at the Ariake Coliseum. It was classified as a Tier I tournament from 1993 through 2008. Then it was a Premier 5 tournament until it was downgraded to a Premier event from the 2014 edition onwards, with the Wuhan Open in Wuhan, China acting as its replacement. Martina Hingis holds the record for most singles titles with five.

About Osaka:

Osaka is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants.

Osaka was traditionally considered Japan's economic hub. By the Kofun period (300–538) it had developed into an important regional port, and in the 7th and 8th centuries it served briefly as the imperial capital. Osaka continued to flourish during the Edo period (1603–1867) and became known as a center of Japanese culture. Following the Meiji Restoration, Osaka greatly expanded in size and underwent rapid industrialization. In 1889, Osaka was officially established as a municipality.

Agreed..this is why Su Wei my favorite player for me to root fot. Su Wei always seems to be giving it her best .
Sloane was just.lumbering and disinterested. Why did she bother to fly all the way to Japan and not perform like that.
She maybe ready to get married since she has already moved to Toronto.

Just watching the final between Osaka v Pavs

Osaka with an early break, she is loving the pace that Pavs is giving her,Pavs needs to show a bit more variety in her game, stop hitting into Osaka strike zone,Osaka bhand impressive early.
Osaka leads 3-0.Solid serve game from Pavs, she gets on the board.Osaka 3-1
Sam Sumyk on court as Pavs coach speaking to her in French,I did not know Pavs understands French lol!
Osaka with a love service game leads 4-1,Pavs as yet cannot make inroads into her service game
One of the most impressive factors so far in Osaka's game has been her serve, which has been on song
Osaka leads 5-2

Osaka with 2 SP as Pavs is just rushing her shots,a DF does not help her cause either, she needs to play with more controlled aggression.

Osaka 1st set 62.

Good tough hold from Pavs saving 4BPs

Pavs saves a couple of BPs again and holds
Osaka will now serve for the title 5-3

A great display of tennis from Osaka, her serve and her depth of shot on both wings were impressive today! well done!
