Bitter defeat for Fed again. But DelPo was the better player. Which, at this point in Fed's career, DelPo is the better player in general anyways. DelPo with just so much power and that huge serve. Add in Fed's lost step and growing inconsistency, from point to point, hitting more errors, DelPo is just better. And so Fed still has only beaten one top 10 player all season. He'll need to do well in Paris if he wants to make it to the YEC. But, if he makes the YEC, will he win a match?

I think so. You have to remember for the last 2 years, Fed, Delpo and Novak have been the best players in doors, so losing to delpo isn't an indicator that he can't beat other guys in doors. He lost twice to delpo last fall, but made the finals of the year end championship. So I think Fed, if he plays like today, is the favorite against most of the top 8 in doors except novak and Delpo.

That lesson was taught in 2011 with a 6-0, 6-3 scoreline, but I am afraid Roger's teaching days might be behind him...:snigger

Congrats to JMDP! A well-deserved win. Federer tried harder than I've seen in a long time, but DP was too good, especially in the third.

Despite the loss, there are some positive takeaways for Fed today. If nothing else, he demonstrated quite clearly that he's still hungry for wins and titles, which shows the desire and motivation are still there. I also think he could have beaten many players today, especially on an indoor hard-court -- he hasn't completely lost it, which is what it looked like at the USO, for example.

I never want Roger to lose but it's hard to root against a guy like Delpo. He's a great competitor but he stays pretty low-key and acts modest. He's been a class act even through those injuries.

I really like that he's picked up his pace when using a challenge. I don't see him taking strolls up to the net to check for invisible marks anymore, which is great. I could only clap for Delpo when he beat Federer.
