hooray for Monfils dismissing Mayer. i wonder - might we see Monfils seeded at the USO? it's still another 20 slots to climb, but you never know, with a little luck at the Masters events ... *optimism

He's ranked only 60, so he has more than 20 slots to climb and he has to bring his ranking higher before the masters, in order to get direct entry in them as well.
I am surprised by Chardy losing to Berrer

^ sorry, i wasn't clear there - i went with the live rankings for the 20 slots; the current Stuttgart points would put him at #57, of course that's still 25 people ahead to get to #32. still, it's makeable for a player of his caliber. if the body holds up, i wouldn't be surprised if he pulls it off. he didn't play at all last summer, so he's got nowhere to go but up before the USO. still, i know better than to count on Monf for anything, of course.

fun fact i stumbled across when i checked his wikipedia entry (wanted to see his US HC results): he had a clean 4-0 record v Safin. of course, this is mostly due to their ages and career trajectories. still, must be nice to have four wins and no losses against a former #1 and slam winner.

Actually, that was the 2nd set. He won the first at love. They're on serve in the 3rd. Go Tommy!

I see Fabio gets easily into the final with a 6-1, 6-3 over Bautista-Agut, who has to be the youngest Spanish player in the top 100, but he also makes the top 50 for the first time with his results here.

Was hoping Haas could take this event but now it'd be nice to see Fabio win it.

Likewise. Missed the matches so far but great run by Fognini.
