No more Vika please let some other meet her. I hope she goes all the way in Rome so she can get a higher ranking - that helps;)

Saw one good match today Gavrilova against Ana. Hope some of you saw that too it's very nail biting and hard fought match. A pity that you can't have an even match but always have to have a winner - they were both winners. Gavrilova will be the next high hope of Australia as soon as she can control her play still too rushed.

I feel you. I'm a BIG Vika fan but I'm over her facing top players in early rounds. There are a lot of players in the bottom half of the top 10 that I really want to see fall out so the draw stops getting stacked weirdly with seeded players who shouldn't be.

Kvitova in a bit of trouble, down a break in the third. Come on Petra!

Wow! Knapp serves for the match but Kvitova breaks at love! 5-5!

Are we seeing a new Petra? She was down 3-5 in the third set, 40-40 on her serve and then she won the next 10 straight points, and blew through the TB 7-1. Won the last 18 of 23 points. Way to go! :clap

Not a new Petra. Knapp does not have the mental toughness to win. She could not serve well or keep the ball in when it counted. Petra is not helping herself playing long matches.

Is Serena injured? Her serve speed was low during the ten minutes I was watching.

After working out a few early-match kinks and quickly getting accustomed to the slower conditions at the Italian Open, Serena Williams cruised comfortably to victory over Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-1, 6-3.

Williams improved to 5-0 against the world No. 39, converting five of seven break points to set up a third-round encounter with either Sara Errani or Christina McHale.

Williams hit 25 winners against 17 unforced errors to improve her Rome winning streak to 15 matches. Williams has not lost in Rome since falling to Jelena Jankovic in the 2010 semifinal. The American skipped 2011, retired before her semifinal with Li Na in 2012 and has won the title in each of the last two years.

Though she seemed to be hobbled by an arm injury in the early going, Williams simply needed a few games to warm up. By the end of the sixth game, which saw Williams execute a regal drop shot for a double-break lead, Williams was in top form.

She would close the opener winning the final eleven points.

The 19-time major champion then broke for 2-1 in the second set and again for 4-1 before Pavlyuchenkova managed a fightback, holding and breaking to get to 5-3.

But Williams would notch her final break in the next game to close the match in 62 minutes.

In other action on Tuesday in Rome, Maria Sharapova advanced when Jarmila Gajdosova was forced to retire with an injury in the second set, while Victoria Azarenka needed three sets to overcome Lucie Hradecka despite 16 double-faults.

10th-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro (d. Mona Barthel) and 12th-seeded Lucie Safarova (d. Anna Karolina Schmiedlova) were also winners.

Thanks, Special. I hope Serena's arm injury is minor, and will not affect her play.

Yeah, maybe. But I'm still glad to see her fight out of a tough spot. She shouldn't have been in that position but all top players have a match like that somewhere. Hope this gets her going in this tournament.

Petra usually wins her matches with a score line such as 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. So, I don't know what is the big fuss about.

Makarova seems to be in a bit of a slump or perhaps hit a wall.
