Hey, delPo, I checker out and in fact I am also with you in USAx Australia.

Thing with Belgium is that their second tier players use to step up on DC and punch way above their weight. And Italy has the anti-weapon Fognini, who can always implode and lose to the #132234 of the world.

Serbia has Djokovic, Troicky is playing good enough to win at least one, Lajovic is having his best season ever and they have a doubles specialist in their captain. I know Spain has Lopez, but I figure the Serbian pairing will have the upper hand. As AP says, this is not even the B Spanish team, even if PCB is playing quite well of late.

I doubt Spain will beat Serbia. Not only would they need to win the doubles (I'm guessing Granollers/M.Lopez for that) but also beat Troicki twice, which is a tall order for dirtballers Carreno and Ramos.

I like the Americans chances down under especially with the way Sock has been playing. There's a fair chance Kyrgios could lose in singles, which would doom the Aussies. The doubles looms large and you'd think the Yanks have the edge there esp with Sock.

I think Edmund and Evans will put up a fight but France should be able to get over the line fairly comfortably esp with Mahut/Herbert on doubles.

ITA/BEL is a tossup with the Belgians have been playing well in DC recently esp Darcis and they're at home. Fognini is inconsistent. I'd lean toward Belgium since they clearly have the best player in the tie.

And no RBA who is underrated as a hard courter.

He is not underrated, they want him to play but he is still with stomach problems since IW and he has decided to rest until the clay season

Eh we'll see. I find it odd that Djoko is playing DC when he just withdrew from Miami. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if he's letting them put him on the banners to sell tickets and then will "have to" pull out right at the last minute because his elbow "didn't heal as quickly as he expected." Absolutely no evidence on that, just wild conjecture on my part. The other factor for me is I am pretty low on Troicki right now.

As far as Italy-Belgium... I mean, I acknowledge Italy is the underdog. But I think that's the position that both they and Belgium like to be in. When they are expected to win and pressure is on is when they usually go down hard.

On the other hand, Djoker may actually play considering it is home game (assuming he is healed).

Quarterfinals is the World Group this weekend. (Home team listed first.):

Belgium v. Italy - Goffin and Fognini in. Rankings favor Italy.

Australia v. USA - Kyrgios is playing, but rankings favor US.

France v. GBR - Murray not playing. France should win.

Serbia v. Spain - Djokovic playing; Nadal not. Will be interesting to see how Novak comes out. Each team has good doubles players in the mix. I'd pick Serbia.

Fognini pulled out of Davis Cup. Think I'm still picking Italy for the upset- Lorenzi and Seppi isn't a terrible singles line-up.

Fog is expected to become a father soon and that is the reason.

May be the real injury was just bruises to ego as opposed to elbow injury. :puzzled

Novak says that he feels well, not more elbow pain and very motivated to play vs Spain. Hope at least the doubles ( Carreño and López) can make one point

Davis Cup World Group Quarterfinal match between Australia and U.S. on Friday
Australia lead U.S. 2-0

Nick Kyrgios (Australia) beat John Isner (U.S.) 7-5 7-6(5) 7-6(5)
Jordan Thompson (Australia) beat Jack Sock (U.S.) 6-3 3-6 7-6(4) 6-4

I expected Kyrgios to edge Isner, but what a great win for Jordan Thompson over Jack Sock. Wasn't expecting that one.
