Went to sleep when Petra lost the second set. I was sure with the dizziness, she would lose the match. So happy she won.

Pova is suddenly playing very well. No more winning ugly. Ana will suffer a lack of confidence after that bagel.

Petra vs Pova for the number two ranking.

In the match Sharpova v Ivanovic

Ana played abysmally, she did improved in the 2nd set.Her 1st serve percentage was too low,she also double faulted at the wrong times in the match. She was too tentative. She had BPs,failed to convert. It wasnt the Ana of 2014, that is certain.

Maria has played the best tennis in this tournament since Roland Garos, though her serving woes continue
Maria had 4 double faults, while trying to serve out the match, which went for nearly 10 mins,Ana did have BP? failed to convert again.

That tenth game of the second set, made up for a really lacklustre match, not the greatest performance from either Maria or Ana.

I just caught the 2nd set and I thought it was good enough. Poor Ana, losing a set to love. To a player that is out of form and doesn't know how to play tennis.:nono If only Ana had a decent, consistent serve, she would have been a player that could compete for all the biggest titles.

It should be a nice final, I like them both and whoever wins will move to #2 ranking? Nice little extra motivation for both to want to win.;)

I assumed Pova played well to bagel Ana. Maybe Petra has a chance even with her illness? Probably not.

Yeah, probably not. I think Sharapova will win this, probably in straight sets. (I don't care for either player; this is simply an assessment of what I think will happen.)

Maria in straights. She excels at taking advantage of opportunities that present themselves. She can get to #2 and avoid any future meetings w/ Serena until the final.

Petra to win, even though I feel she is running on empty.I am not looking much into their H2H I feel the issues she had post 2011 seem to be resolved.Petra has had some poor matches these past few months, but she hasn't played nearly as many 3 setters.

If Petra can find the energy to make a final push then she can still win.The court favors her,she has more weapons at her disposal, she needs to serve well and keep her ufe to a minimum.

I am wondering if Petra will play Moscow. I am thinking not. If she doesn't, then I don't think she can overtake Serena for number 1, and that only leaves Maria. I really hope the knee is nothing and Serena can try and defend YEC and not lose all 1500 points.

^ In her post conference interview at Beijing she said she was tired? Petra dosent need to play Moscow at this stage. She has qualified for Singapore,Petra already had a dizzy spell in her s/final against Stosur in the 2nd set,she needs to rest after this tournament and prepare for Singapore.

I replied to a post on page 10 on this post, regarding the variables regarding Petra if she can over take Serena this year for the No 1 position. In regards to Maria I am working on that right now.Though I am a bit tired at the moment,I will continue with that after the result of the final at Beijing.

Last night I was looking at the WTA Race Ranking where Maria is ranked #2. As I looked at it, Maria could lose to Petra and still be ahead of Petra in the WTA Race, she has that much of a lead on Petra.
Pova 5680 650 for Final, 6330
Petra 4998 1000 for W, 5998

However,

If Maria wins, she has a shot at passing Serena for #1 prior to YEC should she decide to play Moscow.
Maria 5680 + w/Win at Beijing 6680
Serena 6932 + 215 QF pts, 7147

Moscow being a WTA 470 point tourney should Maria win it, would give her 7150, (6680 + 470).

The talk of Petra passing Serena is only wishful thinking, and likely based on the regular 52 week ranking points, except that Petra will have 450 points deducted for last years SF, and Maria 0 because she didn't play. I believe only Maria has a chance to pass Serena prior to YEC.

One think is for sure, Petra v. Maria will be a hard hitting match, louder than most want to hear, but the tennis should great.

As to who can or can not catch Serena won't really matter if her knee is playable at YEC. If not, then yea, we're definitely gonna have a new #1, either before or after YEC.

Lastly, let's hope all ladies are healthy and ready to go for the YEC. Everyone benefits when the best are healthy and playing well.

Just to be clear I responded to a poster in regards to Petra taking over the No 1 position this year,I was responding to a poster,it was a hypothetical and variable post. You can go and read it if you wish on page 10 of this post.I originally said in a post that Maria is in a good position,as she isnt defending points.I dont think Petra will Moscow either. It still remains to be seen if Maria does take a w/card into Moscow,I wanted to wait till the final in Bejing is over, before I did the maths, also I would wait to see if Maria does take a w/card into Moscow.Nothing yet is set in stone.

Not sure what you are referring to as I responded to Sundaymorningguy's post, not yours, as to his wondering if Maria has a shot of passing Serena. This is the purpose of my response to him, as I had the same thought. I did the calculation and yes, she has a shot, and Petra does not. So no, I do not wish to see page 10, nor do I understand why you would refer to me, or Sundaymorningguy, as a butt hurt on the tennis .com site, simply because I took the time to do the calculations.
