The commentators are all over the place on my link. Anand has the greatest defence - draw! He's running out of time - Loss! Carlsen has finished off players in jig time from this position - win!

Ah, there's the point, dead draw now I think, no way to save that last pawn

Can't hear the audio but none of them should be claiming this is a win that's for sure.

Carlsen is stubborn to the point of being a jerk...perfect for a chess player. But this is extra ballsy to refuse the draw

Carlsen might as well play on, though, right? I mean, he can't lose, but there might be a slim chance to win. A draw seems to be the universal chorus of the commentators...

Well with 2 passed pawns I'd say Carlsen is at more risk actually but Anand's time is an issue so something crazy could happen. The rook vs. rook and knight is almost always a draw.

Carlsen is borderline nuts to try this since he is up a point in the match and should feel confident.

Gathering pace now. Is Carlsen trying to run Anand into time-consuming complications?

Or is Anand comfortable?

That's all Carlsen is going for right now. If the time was even he'd be accepting the draw and avoiding potential disaster.

Surely now, with the pawns removed, Anand has to be very careful?

Yep, Carlsen took care of the dangerous pawn and now he is the only one with winning chances but still should be a draw.

They keep adding minutes to Anand's clock. If he keeps going, Carlsen will run into time difficulties... :laydownlaughing

I didn't realize they had 30 second increments till I watched this one live. I don't like that rule, it makes the time less of a factor.

What's that mean? They get more time after a certain amount of moves?

It was interesting, but a good result for Anand...

It means that 30 seconds gets added back to their clock after every move. I assume it was all game but maybe they do it if there is less than 10 mins left? It is a bad thing to have such a big game decided by time but that is part of chess...the clock.

Easy draw today in game 8, something Carlsen will take any day now. Down to the final 4 games and Carlsen is still holding onto the 1 point lead.

Ah, I forgot they were playing. So they have tomorrow off. One more win with white should seal it for Carlsen, but he's not having it as easy as I expected. Has Anand shown any after-effects of "The Mistake?"
