A popular event some years back has returned to the WTA circle. The DIAMOND GAMES in Antwerp, Belgium from February 9 - 15. Kim Clijsters has a big influence on this tournament. Tournament Info
Tier: Premier 700, Prize Money: $731,000, Surface: Hard, Director: Kim Clijsters

"Let's start with top-seeded Eugenie Bouchard. She will undoubtedly become one of the absolute stars of this generation. She has already reached seventh place on the WTA rankings and played last year's final at Wimbledon. She's incredibly talented and pairs that talent with plenty of discipline: an ideal combination", Clijsters reckons.

In the tradition of old-time deployment of the tournament remains a gold, diamond-coated racket: 4.5 kg of gold and 2008 diamonds. Together worth $ 1.5 million. Who will win twice in three years will win the racket. "Believe me, that is a serious additional attraction for women's tennis," Kim adds. "We aim primarily to a very strong competition and we are targeting a number of big names and several players from the top 20. Then, such a trophy certainly helps!" - here is the racket:

The four top-seeded players get a bye in the first round and join the action from round two. Along with Canadian Bouchard that list also includes Germans Angelique Kerber (2) and Andrea Petkovic (3) as well as Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova (4).

"I know Angelique very well", says Clijsters. "She beat me at my last appearance at Wimbledon. But I forgive her, she's a very cool girl", Clijsters laughs. "And Petkovic is a great personality." A few years back she introduced the 'Petko Dance': a victory dance after every win. Let's find out if the Antwerp crowd will get to see her dancing skills as well ...

Seeing that Bouchard opted not to represent Canada in Fed Cup and play at this tournament, being the top seed and with a new coach to boot, she will be expected to win at this tournament, though there are a couple of players that could give her trouble.Let's see how it all pans out.

Lets see how Genie does... She really needs to start proving herself at events like this not just with QF/SF runs at grand slams.

I just realized Pliskova is getting back from Canada, so maybe my guess was a stretch. It's a pretty tough line-up all in all. If Genie wins she'll get through some fierce girls.

genie needs to win. I feel with a new coach and the transition that comes with that, maybe she is not as confident as before.

Genie has a excellent coach now,I hope he can smooth out her technical problems,eg her fhand which is woeful, also her 2nd serve needs attention, she is a confident young women, when Sam coached Vera and Vika their technique's were good, though to me they lacked confidence. Also I thought Vika controlled her emotions better,to me at times she used to be her own 'worst enemy'.

Belinda is playing Alize as I write this, youngster is ahead 4-1 in the opening set. This is kinda strange as Alize is only 25 but that's old in tennis terms, Belinda is 17

How about Franny? She outdid Klara in straights in the battle of Oldies! Franny made it through the qualifying, now she will face Angie Kerber.

The young Swiss Miss had no trouble winning the 1st set over Cornet 6-1

Glaring stat from Cornet in that 1st set was her UFE 13 and just 2 winners.

Bencic 5 winners and 4 ufe.

All tied up in the final set between Belina and Alize, this is a grinder.
Alize took the second set 6-2
Third set score stands at 3-3

Very untidy match from both player's stat's wise

Bencic 13/33 BP 7/12

Cornet 25/41 BP 7/8...going on that stat alone,Cornet converted better in her BPs,than Bencic

Cornet winning 16 62 75
