One of Luxembourg's most significant annual sporting events, the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open at the CK Sports Center Kockelscheuer in Luxembourg City is the final International tournament on the WTA calendar.

Launched in 1996, the event's champions include notables such as Victoria Azarenka, Jennifer Capriati, Elena Dementieva, Ana Ivanovic, Mary Pierce, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters, whose tournament-record five championships included her very first WTA title as a 16-year-old in 1999.

"I really enjoyed my time here," said 2011 winner Azarenka. "It's a great tournament, and I think a lot of tournaments should take Luxembourg into consideration as an example."

Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki are among the stars who will contest the Luxembourg Open.

About Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a small European country, surrounded by Belgium, France and Germany. It’s mostly rural, with dense Ardennes forest and nature parks in the north, rocky gorges of the Mullerthal region in the east and the Moselle river valley in the southeast. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is famed for its fortified medieval old town perched on sheer cliffs.

That is a surprise. Niculescu has a funky game. I would hate to play her.
