In Vienna,
Griekspoor gave a walkover to Zverev in the QFs citing back pain, ( which meant that Zverev has now qualified for Turin Finals )
de Minaur (3) d Berrettini 61 76(4)
Sinner (1) d Bublik 64 64
Musetti (4) d Moutet 63 64

Tsitsipas has ended his 2025 season, needs to focus on recovery and healing to come back stronger for the 2026 season.

Regardless of Sinner being on a 20 match indoor hard court winning streak,
I am delighted that Fonseca who is the 4th youngest ever player to reach an ATP500 final, he defeated Munar 76(4) 75 and will fight for the title in Basel, he will either play Humbert or Davidovich Fokina.
NOTE: If he wins the title #28 ( Top 30 debut and seeding at the AO, a loss #34)

I only saw the scores. Was it more than one break per set?
I just checked the score also, but was riffing off the feeling of inevitability with Sinner. It just seems that, except for the very rare exception (Alcaraz, mostly, or an injury), he's the most guaranteed expected win in tennis right now.

Of note, he's had six losses this year, four by Alcaraz. Of the six losses, two have been by retirement. Bublik is the only player other than Alcaraz to beat Sinner this year in a full match.

Since the start of 2024, he's 121-12, or 127-12 counting Six Kings. Alcaraz accounts for 7 of those 12 losses, with the other 5 being Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Rublev, Bublik, and Griekspoor. Those 12 losses:

2024 Indian Wells SF vs Alcaraz (3 sets)
2024 Monte Carlo SF vs Tsitsipas (3 sets)
2024 Madrid QF vs Auger-Aliassime (WO)
2024 Roland Garros SF vs Alcaraz (5 sets)
2024 Wimbledon QF vs Medvedev (5 sets)
2024 Canada Masters QF vs Rublev (3 sets)
2024 Beijing 500 F vs Alcaraz (3 sets)
2025 Rome F vs Alcaraz (2 sets)
2025 Roland Garros F vs Alcaraz (5 sets)

2025 Halle 500 R16 vs Bublik (3 sets)
2025 Cincinnai F vs Alcaraz (1 set Retired)
2025 US Open F vs Alcaraz (4 sets)

2025 Shanghai R32 vs Griekspoor (3 sets retired)

Or this: He's 124-5 over the last two seasons against non-Alcaraz opponents.

He's only played one full match in the last two seasons in which he didn't win at least one set - the Rome final this year. Other than that, he's taken at least a set off every opponent (in a full match).

Anyhow, I am once again struck by the contrast with how hopeless it seemed for years (over a decade, really) that we'd never see another young great player. The Big Three Hegemony was just too dominant, with two whole generations of players unable to de-throne them. But then you have the emergence of not one but two great players, and not just garden variety greats of the Edberg/Becker level. Sincaraz are showing Big Three levels of dominance. How long it will last remains to be seen, but I think their peak level right now - and really going back to the beginning of 2024 for Jannik - is at least in the ballpark of the Big Three.

While I do hope that someone emerges to challenge them, it will be interesting to see if one of them can put together a three-Slam season in the next year or two.

I'm very pleased with this. While I know results don't tell the whole story of development, it seems that since his title in Argentina back in February, he's mainly been treading water: Winning a match or two at most tournaments, but then going out in the R32 or R16. So regardless of outcome in the final, this is his best result since February. He's had a bit of help with the Mensik injury and whatever happened with Shapo, but he's also had some good victories - Shapo was earned, and Munar is a solid player.

I just hope he's not too tired for Paris Masters, with a re-match against Shapo to start.

Either way, I think he's primed to take another forward early next year.

Fonseca's possible path in Paris:
R64: Shapovalov
R32: Khachanov (or Bonzi)
R16: De Minaur or Griekspoor
QF: Fritz (maybe Bublik)
SF: Alcaraz (maybe Ruud)
F: Sinner (Shelton/Zverev/Musetti)

Hard to see him making it through that, but he's got a good chance of reaching R16, maybe the QF or even SF.

Baby steps for Fonseca, he was leading Shapo 4-1 before Shapo retired out of nowhere, then defeating Munar who is a solid player today in the SF,
Agree in 2026 I also feel he take further steps,

whatever happened with Shapo
Fonseca happened...

Yes, Fonseca seemed stagnant, I even thought he made some steps backwards, but... Among the results there are the Davis and Laver cup matches, against high ranked opponents. And I do think that he and his team are actively adapting his game, hence the strange matches.

Also, waiting to pounce on the very last bit of the season was a smart move. I guess even winning the title he will go full steam to Paris, specially given his first round opponent.

I think it was a wise decision to miss the Asian swing, hitting 27 fhand winners in 2 sets of tennis, against Munar, his fhand was on 'fire' adapting well to the indoor conditions

Lorenzo I had high hopes for you in Vienna, I should have known better! You did have a winning H2H 3-1 over Zed,

Another retirement
Humbert retires against Davidovich Fokina, 67(4) 1-3 ( a left hip issue)

Meaning that Davidovich Fokina will play Fonseca in the final in Basel
Foki is into his 4th final this year do I need to bring out my new rosary beads blessed by Pope Leo for the final.
BTW that makes it 4 retirements in the last 24 hours in the Basel tournament!
