Saba won 28 of her 29 sets in Melbourne Park, including her 2023 run
Saba is the first player to defend her first major title since Victoria Azarenka 2013 AO win against Li Na. She is also the first player since Azarenka that year to defend an AO crown
BTW since 2000, 4 players have won AO without losing a set
2000 Davenport
2008 Sharapova
2017 Serena Williams
2022 Ash Barty
2024 Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka fulfilled her father's dream, who passed away in 2019 at just 43 year old. We had one dream that before I turn 25, I will win a couple of GS.
After her AO today she fulfilled 'her father's dream'.

Last 6 GS for Sabalenka
2022 USO SF
AO 2023 W
RG 2023 SF
Wimbledon 2023 SF
USO 2023 F
AO 2024 W

Ladies Doubles Final, Sunday 28th January

S.Hsieh/E.Mertens (2) vs J.Ostpapenko/L.Kichenok

BTW Hsieh has already won the Mixed Doubles Title at the AO, one of my all time favorite ladies doubles players to watch

I didn’t watch the match but I am chuffed for Sabalenka. She has been unfairly treated for things that are beyond her control, and I hope she dominates women’s tennis for a long time.

Well Saba has the game that is for sure, as she showed at the start of the AO tournament, she has beaten some of her demons that have curtailed her career a few years ago, she was calm and happy at the AO, defending your title is the hardest to do, she has shown last year reaching SF and F she has the game for all surfaces.

i watched the first set only and then gave up. Seemed obvious to me that the poor girl was no match for Sabalenka. Final looked uncompetitive at that stage. It's a tragedy that so many of the top seeded women had been eliminated in earlier rounds but young Qinwen Zheng, the #12 seed, did well just to win five games from Sabalenka and deserved her spot in the final.

I'm sorry that I couldn't wake up for this match. So happy for Sabalenka. I watched the replay. She makes me laugh with her speeches.

Wow Hsieh and Mertens (2) winning the 1st set 61 over Osta/Kichenok
Osta/Kichenok had a early break in the 2nd set, Mertens/Hsieh just broke Kichenok to love
Back on serve 2 all 2nd set
Mertens/Hsieh have been pressured on their service games in the 2nd set still on serve 3-4 with Osta/Kichenok to serve
Mertens with a great lob and breaks and will now serve for the match 5-3 and the title
Ostapenko breaks Mertens with a fh winner and we are back on serve 4-5 and serving in the 2nd set
Seals with an Ace from Osta 5 all 2nd set
Good hold from Mertens Hsieh 6-5 and Osta /Kichenok will serve to force a TB for the 2nd set
Yes Osta/Hsieh broke to love and defeated Ostsa/Kichenok 61 75
