2020 US Open Men's Quarterfinals: Borna Coric vs. Alexander Zverev

This will be their 5th meeting overall and 2nd meeting at the US Open. Coric leads the H2H match-up 3-1 over Zverev including their last meeting in 2018 and their only US Open meeting in 2017.

I pick Zverev in four competitive sets.

I much prefer the mental aspect of young Coric and he has come through to the q/final first with a comeback 5 sets win against the young Greek and a controlled match against Thompson in straights sets.I feel he has the weapons to defeat Zverev

The reason I pick Zverev is serving well enough to overpower Coric. Also, while Coric is more consistent from the baseline, his forehand can get erratic. Either way, I would not be surprised if Coric wins this match.

I've already cast a vote and changed it. I'd like to think that Zverev is ready to step up, but I'm not convinced. Still, I went with him in 4. If it goes 5, I'd change my bet.

I voted Coric in 5, but with Zverev you never know. Is he over with his yips or is it going to surface again when it gets tough? He seems to have found his game in slams and is more calm, will be hard for Coric, but he is where he likes to be, an underdog.

Sparing a moment for Zverev, he's a guy who's had the weight of expectation for a pretty long time, and, particularly at Majors, he has underperformed. I'll be hoping he steps up to the plate. He'll be my first choice to make the final from the top half.

I will say this, Moxie: I think the pep talk he received from both Federer and Nadal at the Laver Cup last year sparked something inside of him. He still has his moments mentally, but for the most part he has become a lot calmer in matches since the Laver Cup rubber match.

Interesting point. I'm also hoping that Ferrer helps instill some mental strength. No whining, just keep your head down and win.

Right now giraffe is receiving a lesson in tennis. Just good serving isn’t enough.
Fake German feels it, every time a rally starts, he is behind.

Should have been a worse beating in that 1st set! Coric was overhitting on some of the points donating a few to Sascha! This may not go 4 unless something changes drastically!
