Hey Murat, they must have read your post. Novak and Nadal are practicing on ice
(not literally though). See article below.

I did see those pictures and the video. Breathtaking scenery, no?

There is a preview of DC-2014 in tennis.com by Pagliaro.
They predict that Roger will not play in the 1st round.

There is a popular perception that Roger Federer does not play much in the Davis Cup
and is not helping Switzerland.

If you look at the facts, one realizes that this perception is completely erroneous.
I found out the following facts from various sources.

1. Of the last 30 ties that Switzerland played in DC, Roger participated in 22 of them.

2. Since debuting in DC for Swiss, Roger has played in 74% of all DC ties.

3. Roger is one of several players who have been given the "Davis Cup
Commitment Award" by ITF. This award is not based on success in davis
cup, but is based on a player's commitment to participate in DC.
BTW, Rafa is yet to receive this award. You can find this info in official
davis cup website. So, this is not some fan based propaganda.

Question now is, will Roger and Stan bring the DC cup home in 2014?

Argentina is no longer a serious contender (with Nalby's retirement and
JMDP's disagreements with the authorities).

So, it looks like Spain, Serbia, Czech and Swiss have a chance. With weak
supporting cast, Serbia is on the decline. If Spain falls somewhere along
the way, Swiss can win DC (as Swiss cannot meet Spain before finals).

Just giving this thread a bump with DC about to start in a day or so.

I am excited that Fed decided to play DC. I will be rooting for Swiss to
go all the way.

As I mentioned in my opening post, Switzerland has three easy rounds.
The tough opener mentioned in my OP became easy opener with Serbia having
any one from top 100 in team. Assuming some big name teams (Spain) in the other
half fail early (which is quite conceivable in DC as the big name players may not
play early rounds), Switzerland has a decent shot.

Yes, he can. But, he probably would not.

Even if Nole wins his two matches, Fed ad Stan will win their other singles. So, it
will come to doubles. In order for Serbia to have a chance at winning the doubles
Djokovic and Zimonjic have to play against the Olympic Gold winning pair of
Fed and Stan.

Novak was not willing to play doubles in the DC finals last year when the
cup was at stake, why would he want to play three matches in three days
in the middle of peak season.

Before Federer announced he was playing...

Instead of working out this week with the team, Djokovic went skiing at home, tweeting a picture of himself shoveling snow from atop a car. But Serbian officials proved perfectly understanding as their team faces the Swiss – without Roger Federer – in Novi Sad. “Djokovic feels that he needs a pause. He is exhausted, both mentally and physically,” said captain Bogdan Obradovic. -source

Serbia is outgunned. Here's hoping Nole changes his mind now that elder Federer has entered the fray... :please:

But somehow I doubt it.

Respectfully,

I'm actually really looking forward to watching Bozoljac - Federer (Serbia - Switzerland) tomorrow. Only time they played (Wimbedon 2010) was a cracking match with an unreal performance from Bozoljac. I've been extremely disappointed Bozo never played well really in singles ever since, with only good results in DC/doubles. Anyway, I'm expecting a decent match. The guy has a huge serve and can really play when he wants to. Shame he hasn't done better in singles as his passing shots and serving against Fed in 2010 were unreal.

The Olympic Gold winning pair of Fed and Stan lost against USA team 2012 on clay in 4sets,MBrian/ MFish on clay from all people , at home turf.
Sure you know that Novak was not "willing" to play doubles in least year F

Bozoljac can be a total beast and playing top ranked players actually seems to bring out the best in him. I don't think Fed's match will be a walk in the park personally.

and also said he will wait until he has player a singles before deciding on doubles..same old same old with uk davis cup, its all put on andy, no one else is good enough to play world group level at least..

i'm hoping they throw kyle Edmund in to play something,(who just turned 19).

Hey guys I have been helping out the US Davis Cup team at my club with practices...they laid identical courts down. The players have said the courts at Petco are more dusty and slippery. The ones at the club
are playing perfectly. Ball is Dunlop Fort.

I will be attending opening day rubber. Have pix to post of practice courts soon.

FYI, Donald Young just may sub in for Isner...ankle pending.

I was impressed with Ward and Flemming...consummate pros.

It is real simple. He has a win over Murray at Indian Wells, he is super fit..and Big John's ankle is not looking good. There was not too many other options.

The Bryans are looking incredible.

I think Young is a good choice for clay. Nobody has to beat Murray in singles. Ward has to lose both singles rubbers and the Bryans have to win. Very possible, if not likely to happen.
