The Tournament:

The US Open Tennis Championships, commonly called the US Open, is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year, except for 2020. The other three, in chronological order, are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The US Open starts on the last Monday of August and continues for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday. The tournament is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, originally known as the U.S. National Championship, for which men's singles and men's doubles were first played in August 1881. It is the only Grand Slam that was not affected by cancellation of World War I and World War II or interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

About New York City:

New York, often called New York City or NYC, is the most populous city in the United States. With a 2020 population of 8,804,190 distributed over 300.46 square miles (778.2 km2), New York City is the most densely populated major city in the United States. The city is more than twice as populous as Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest city. New York City is situated at the southern tip of New York State. Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City comprises five boroughs, each of which is coextensive with a respective county. The five boroughs, which were created in 1898 when local governments were consolidated into a single municipality, are: Brooklyn (Kings County), Queens (Queens County), Manhattan (New York County), the Bronx (Bronx County), and Staten Island (Richmond County). New York City is a global city and a cultural, financial, high-tech, entertainment, glamor, and media center with a significant influence on commerce, health care and scientific output in life sciences, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy, and it is sometimes described as the world's most important city and the capital of the world.

I am also happy to report that Jaz has pulled out of the Mixed Doubles at the USO, a wise move seeing she had just played a final

Veteran doubles team proving they know how to play doubles better in that game, for sure. Two singles players have different instincts.
Sara Errani will be retiring at the end of this year, so another GS Mixed Doubles title will be a wonderful end to her all round doubles career
Sara will also play in the womens doubles draw at the USO this ye

I forgot she was retiring. But she's 38. She does seem to be made for coaching, though.

QF projected seedings,
Sabalenka (1) vs Paolini (8)
Pegula (4) vs Andreeva (5)
Keys (6) vs Gauff (3)
Swiatek (2) vs Anisimova (9) Anisimova moves up due to the withdrawal of Zheng currently ranked No 7

Bottom half of the draw stronger, with Swaitek , Gauff and Keys and Anisimova

1st round interesting match ups,

Venus Williams vs Muchova
Tauson vs Eala
Pavs vs Yastremska
Mboko vs Krejcikova tough 1st round for Vicky
Andreeva vs Parks Just watch Andreeva she had a nasty fall on her ankle and didnt play Cincy, though wise decision
Kostyuk vs Boulter The Drama Queen Kostyuk had to withdraw in her first rd match at Cincy due to the wrist injury she sustained at Monteral, I was surprised she didnt withdraw from Cincy in the first place.
Vekic vs Bouzas
Gauff vs Tomljanovic
Sakkari vs Maria
Shnaider vs Siegemund

Sabalenka the USO defending champion, is defending 2000 points in NYC. Remove those, and her total at the start of the tournament is 9,225, compared to Swiatek 7,503 ad Gauff with 7,634, putting both in striking distance
Swiatek, the winner at Wimbledon and Cincy has the most momentum, a former USO champion as is Gauff, who in the current rankings is just 59 points behind Swiatek.
If Sabalenka dosent reach the QFs in NYC, Swiatek or Gauff could move to No 1 winning the title. But if Sabalenka makes the QFs ( 430 points ), she will lock down the top spot regardless of other results.

Coco Gauff on her decision to changes coaches in her pre tournament presser.

" Gavin became available. I just felt this was the best decision for my game at least and I had to go with that feeling".

As I previously posted on the WTA News post,
Gavin MacMillian, previously worked with Sabalenka for her troubled serve, and also helped her with her wayward fhand.
Gavin is a Bio Mechanic Specialist, has worked in different sports both male and female, he uses the new technology, goes to the video a lot, really breaks down the biomechanics.
( I have been wanting Coco to use a Bio Mechanic Specialist for her serve, for the past 2 years and I am delighted that she has Gavin on her team, I saw a video the other day where Gavin was on court with Coco practicing her serve, if Gavin helped Sabalenka cut out her horrendous double faults a couple of years ago, I am certain Gavin can help the serve of Coco ).

Maddy back to doing Keys things. Playing down to the level of her competition. 89 UE's is not acceptable for a top 10 player in a 3 set match.
