At this point, it shouldn't be surprising when Holger loses. He just doesn't have it. He's #13 in the Race rankings and I think at this point, that's who he is. I don't even know if I feel like he has flashes of being much more. He's a good player with upside, but at this point he's a fringe top 10-15 guy, not a top 5 guy.

14th seed, Tommy Paul has eventually won a five-set, second round marathon against Nuno Borges, 7-5 in the 5th set.

Alexander Bublik 23 seed, will be his next opponent.

Another upset and another heated exchange - Daniel Altmaier defeats #26 seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas in another 4 hr epic. Stefanos was not happy by Daniel serving an underarm and then hits him on the next point.

Altmaier, ranked No.56, will next play Australia's eighth seed Alex de Minaur in the third round.

Man, the Slams are super predictable. This could be a long spell of just two guys winning them.

What is the record for most Slams in a row won by two players?

11 - Federer 8/Nadal 3 (RG 2005 - USO 2007)
9 - Nadal 5/Djokovic 4 (RG 2010 - RG 2012)
8 - Djokovic 5/Nadal 3 (RG 2018 - AO 2020)
7 - Sinner 4/Alcaraz 3 (AO 2024 - WIM 2025...ongoing)
6 - Sampras 4/Bruguera 2 (RG 1993 - WIM 1994)
6 - Federer 3/Nadal 3 (RG 2008 - WIM 2009)
6 - Djokovic 4/Alcaraz 2 (WIM 2022 - USO 2023)

They have a legit shot at Fedal, and at least already have the fourth longest streak by a duo, and the longest other than the Big Three.

FYI, Borg/McEnroe won 9 RG/WIM/USOs in a row in 1979-81 but both skipped the AO during that time. But that deserves mention.

More drama , bad luck for Ben forced to retire with injury to the shoulder.

The veteran and gifted lefthanded Mannarino has a real good chance to advance to the last eight.

Daniil Medvedev fined $42,500 for unsportsmanlike misconduct and racket abuse after outburst at US Open...

Daniil Medvedev has been fined $42,500 for unsportsmanlike misconduct and racket abuse following his outburst at the US Open on Sunday.

Medvedev’s fine is almost 40% of the $110,000 in prize money he earned for appearing in the first round of the grand slam at Flushing Meadows.

The 29-year-old was fined $30,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and $12,500 for racket abuse.

During the Russian’s first round defeat to Benjamin Bonzi in New York, the Frenchman was serving for the match and, as he prepared to play his second serve, a photographer stepped onto the court surface.

The disruption led chair umpire Greg Allensworth to put Bonzi back onto his first serve, sparking an astonishing outburst from Medvedev.

“Are you a man? Are you a man? Why are you shaking?” the 2021 US Open winner shouted as he stormed towards the chair.

“He wants to go home, guys, he doesn’t like it here. He gets paid by the match, not by the hour.”

Medvedev also repeatedly shouted, “What did Reilly Opelka say?” at the official in reference to the US player’s call for Allensworth to be suspended after receiving a code violation at the Dallas Open for confronting a spectator.

The match was halted for about six minutes as jeers, whistles and boos rang out around Louis Armstrong Stadium, with fans refusing to stay quiet so Bonzi could serve.

The United States Tennis Association said the photographer was escorted from the court by US Open security and that his credentials had been revoked.

Bonzi threatened to walk off the court at one point and called for the Russian to be disqualified. Although Medvedev was able to rally after the incident, Bonzi would go onto win in five sets.

At the end of the match, Medvedev repeatedly hit his racket against his bench.

After Medvedev’s outburst, his longtime friend Andrey Rublev offered to support him if he wants to address his emotions.

“If he wants to change and needs help, he has me, a lot of other friends and family that will help him,” Rublev told reporters after his first round victory at the US Open. “But it’s his life and his decision what he needs to do.”

The Russian added: “Only he knows what is happening.

“I think he needs to take some time because it was a tough loss, but I will text him. The year he’s had in the grand slams hasn’t been easy.”

US star Frances Tiafoe said that Medvedev’s frustrations likely stem from his early exits at grand slams – in the four majors this year, Medvedev exited in the first round in three except the Australian Open where he reached the second round.

“He holds himself to a super high standard,” the American said. “He’s been struggling and he’s struggling to face the music, right? He’s struggling to face losing early and to guys he feels he should be beating.

“Another side comes out. I hope to see him play to the level that he’s capable of playing. It’s been a super tough stretch.”

Big Toe got some nerve talking about Meddy losing early to folks he should be beating. What has he done this year? He's been subpar and he knows it. Needs to worry about his own backyard

That was really unfortunate for Ben. I hope it's not a bad injury. But, of everyone who might have benefited, I'm glad it's Mannarino. He's got a really nice game. It's sort of loose and casual in the way of Fognini's, without the drama. He was typically low-key and gentlemanly in his remarks on court after the match. He'd gone off court after winning the 4th Set, and didn't realize that Ben was going to concede. Asked about his long career, he said, "this is the first time I've won a match from the toilet." He wasn't making light of it, but it was kind of funny.

I feel like this is the one Mannarino is owed from 2021 Wimbledon. If the Tennis Gods are fair, Dmitrov is owed several.

He also lost today in straight sets to J.L. Struff.

Medvedev really got off lightly. Because, U.S. $42,500 fine is peanuts compared to the millions of dollars he's earned. Should have copped a 6-month ban, additionally.

Taylor Fritz is in a real battle with Swiss player Jerome Kym, 1 set all and 4-3 in the third to Fritz. That was an awesome second-set tiebreaker the two players played. Fritz had three set-points before Kym eventually winning it 11-9.
