Yesterday, Garin w/ another epic choke job. Up 4-0 in the decider and lets Zed off the hook.
Etcheverry sent Atmane packing.

After serving Meddy twin glazed donuts, Babycakes is bested in straights by the Fonz. I'm sorry,, but all these years on tour and that BH is still vulnerable. That's unacceptable. I'm not expecting it to be as lethal as the FH nor have as much variety and spin as the FH, but by God man, at this stage of your career it shouldn't continue to be targeted so successfully for your demise. Hire someone that can help you build it up.

Yeah, shocking performance.
Not really, Medvedev (at his best) is a very good hard court player, not so much on the natural surfaces. Yes, Medvedev has made the QF at RG and SF at Wimbledon, but for whatever reason (whether it's mental or a lack of effort), he has never been able to consistently put it together on clay or grass the way he does on the hard courts. This performance adds to his long list of duds on the natural surfaces.

Just to remind you that Medvedev won Rome Masters in 2023 defeating Rune 75 75

After not serving it out on 2 occasions Machac takes the 2nd set TB 7-3 vs Sinner to end the streak of sets won.
Most consecutive sets won at Masters 1000 level
Sinner 37 ( 2025 Paris - Monte Carlo)
Djokovic 24 ( 2016 IW - Monte Carlo)
Alcaraz 21 ( 2023 IW - Miami)

Steak had to end at some point no? Jannik won in 3 sets 61 67(3) 63
Sinner back into the MC QFs with a 14th consecutive win. 19 consecutive Masters 1000 wins as well.

Fonzie has reached his first QF at a big event. A nice showing so far. Zverev will be an interesting opponent for him. Anyhow, it looks like we're heading for another Sinner-Alcaraz final, but I'd sure love to see something like Fonzie or FAA vs. Bublik or De Minaur for a new Masters winner.

Isn't that almost always t/b expected! He played out of his mind yesterday bageling Med! Why shocked he couldn't keep the ball in court today? :)

I might've to watch this one! I keep hearing about this next star of the tour! I've called him a Phantom at times being off the court w/ injury so often!

Watchu talkin bout, Willis? Fonzie has played in six tournaments this year, and 17 last year, plus 3 challengers, and the Davis and Laver Cups for a total of 56 matches (39-17). He's barely been hurt at all.

You might not have noticed him much this year because he got off to a bit of a rocky start. He went out in the 1st round of the AO and Buenos Aires (which he won last year), then 2nd round of Rio. He started playing well at IW, but lost to Sinner in the 4th round. He went out early again in Miami, losing in the 2nd round to Alcaraz. MC he's made the QF, so seems to be gaining steam.

Note that late last year I suggested that he might break out a bit during clay season. I hope I'm right. I'm less concerned about titles, and more about deep runs.

I joked/mused about Fonseca a few weeks ago about his lack of play/exposure! He was injured sometime at the end of last season, then came the upset at AO! I exaggerated his lack of court time! I just don't see much b/c I don't watch much! I've been more entertained of late by seeing more thigh w/ the men going to the shorter short! Macháč, Vacherot, & Rune giving "the most" hiking them up even more! :smiling-face-with-horns::shushing-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

On my blog from Feb.:

*** - (From someone here)
"
***As for Fonzie, I take seriously what Roger said, that "he's probably going to take a bit of time to develop, like I did." And remember where Sinner was at in the yr. he was Fonzie's age ('21): still 2 yrs. from his 1st Big title, 3 yrs. from his 1st Slam. Similarly w/ Roger. As I said elsewhere, Fonzie's the same age as Roger in '02, Sinner in '22 - still a couple yrs. from everything coming together.***

(I wrote) - Who's this phantom player, Fonseca? I never see him! We keep talking about him, but I haven't seen him on the court in ages! I literally can't remember the last time I actually saw him playing a match! I don't watch as much as I once did, but he's about as missing as Tommy Haas way back when! I've seen more pics of Marat Safin in the last month or so!

***He went out in the R128 @ the AO. Didn't play a warm-up. You w/b seeing a lot more of him going forward, but he's still @ the stage where he's trying to get to QFs/SFs.***"

You made me chuckle with the thigh comment, Fiero. LOL.

Anyhow, that "someone" you quoted was me! ;). I still like Roger's comment. I think Fonzie will make progress this year and maybe reach the top 10 this year, or at least solidly in the top half of top 20 (he reached #24 last year, is currently #40 due to his slow start but is up to #35 in the live rankings). Basically what I hope to see this year is deeper runs in general. Titles would be nice, especially a Masters, but I'm mostly looking for deeper runs - and maybe some big event QFs and SFs sprinkled in. If he reaches a big Final, all the better. If he wins one, great. But it is really more that depth...he needs to bring up the floor and build some stamina and consistency. If he does that, I think he'll jump in 2027 and be a serious player, in the mix of darkhorses. I don't think we'll see prime Fonzie until 2028, though.

I should have known it was you! I quote you the most; giving me so much info/stats to come back to & to point to for people who follow me! :)

Sinner posts his 20th successive Masters 1000 win defeating FAA 63 64 to join Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal as the only players to achieve this tally, he will play Zverev in the SFs only for the 3rd straight time so far in Masters 1000 2026 Meh!
Jannik Forza!

Fonseca Zverev was a fun match and now Zverev gets his favorite opponent in the semis. Can he take a set for a change?

Following Vacherot the whole week. This guy refuses to go down in front of the home crowd, though he looks gassed now in the 3rd against De Minaur.

Vacherot wins 6:3 with a FH return winner. He finds an incredible level once again. What a story, every match he played this week was super fun and the way he punishes the tennis ball is pure joy.
