Vika was all but down and out, incl. a MP to Knapp, but she gutted it out and won the TB, so onto a 3rd set. Not sure what goes on with her knee. Not taped.

So Vika retires and will head home early.

I'm so sorry to see this. She's had more than her share of injuries of late. She's the strongest competition for Serena. I love Serena, and I want to see her get #22, even here, but competition is good for the sport, and if Vika could stay healthy, I think she and Williams could yet produce some great matches. Come back strong soon, Vika!

azarenka keeps getting injured. she is made out of glass.
I really sort of hate this trope that some players are "made out of glass." It's sports, and people get injured. Some more than others. But injury is a usual side-effect of sports.

Vika just getting over her back injury and sustained a leg injury in her first rd match,Vika has been plagued with ongoing injuries the last couple of years,I really had high hopes for her in 2016....hopefully she will be okay to play the grass season.I was not surprised to see Kerber beaten, she also has been battling a shoulder injury.
